"You're Subaku no Gaara..?" The cornered girl asked.
"Hai, you know what that means?" Gaara asked her.
She gulped and looked around for an escape. She knew she was about to die.
Gaara licked his lips, knowing that blood was going to be coating them soon. With an evil, knowing grin that crossed his features.
The girl decided to make a run for it. Sand caught her ankles and she fell to the ground, scraping her elbows, showing blood.
Even if Gaara was going to change his mind about killing her, he couldn't now. The promise of blood was too great for him to resist now.
He made the sand hold her down whilst he went to one knee and tasted the blood. Delicious as always.
She started screaming and crying. Gaara's eyes lowered. It was always more fun when they struggled.
He backed up a little and let her get to her feet. She stared as he put a hand forward and sand floated up, about to pounce.
Gaara heard footsteps and looked toward the source. She saw the diversion and ran away.
"Gaara..?" Naruto asked.
Gaara looked at the ground. The sand sinking to it in streams.
"Were you.. Were you about to kill her?"
"Yes." Gaara said bluntly.
It took Naruto a second to reply. "Why..?"
"I don't know."
"..Why would you kill an innocent person like her?"
"Because I wanted to." He stared sadly at the ground, unused to being questioned. "What does it matter to you?"
"Because.. You are my friend."
Gaara looked up in shock. "What?"
"You are my friend, Gaara."
"Why would you say such a thing after I tried so hard to kill you..?"
"Because... You could really use a friend."
Gaara stared at him, contemplating. Use..?
Gaara looked at Naruto. "What do friends do with each other?"
Naruto walked over to Gaara and pulled him into a hug. Gaara tensed, unused to the contact.
They were so much alike, yet so different. He had love.. Which Gaara wanted as well. He wanted... his love. Love from him.
"Will you love me?" Gaara asked.
The blonde jumped in shock. Then replied, "Sure, Gaara."
Gaara hugged him back. Naruto squeezed tighter.
Love.. He was finally going to get love. Gaara closed his eyes thinking ‘mother... look at me now. I'm finally going to receive someone's love. I promised you I would some day....'
