Often perceived as an unmotivated individual with the tendency to zone out, but beyond it lies an adventurous mind and a firm believer that experience is the best teacher. Crestwood born and raised. Nathaniel would have gone overseas if not for his young age. Instead, the toddler stayed behind at the request of his mother while Merideth, the eldest child seized the opportunity and joined their father on his business travels. It wasn’t until their departure that the woman’s true color began to emerge. She was neglectful, setting most of her responsibilities aside to revel more in the life of luxury as the mistress of the Dumont Estate. As a result, Nathaniel grew up with no particular attachment to the family, nor did he bother to familiarize himself with the very concept of it. Having too much accustomed to the solitary home life, he managed to keep himself entertained through reading, particularly on studies of machinery and animals. He even taught himself photography, a favorite escape in which he would stroll with his friends around the bizarre-reputed town, not that he cared about it anymore.

His father and sister returned when he was twelve, and it turned out to be difficult for the boy who had little to no memories of them. The amount of interactions had him staggered at first, especially the ones with his sister, Merideth who enjoyed teasing him. As strange as it felt, Nathaniel couldn’t help but enjoy the attention he received and gradually began to return the gesture. What came after was a growing adoration for his only sister, whom he perceived as equal to both mother and sister figure. Their parents’ eventual divorce and the prolonged absence of their father only served to strengthen it. The boy wanted nothing more than to make her proud, and the motivation gave rise to his already stellar academic performance, eventually delving into the fields of Mechanical Engineering at the age of sixteen. By the time he reached this new height, Nathaniel realized his adoration was ever-growing and that he wished for something more. This, coupled with Merideth’s occasional advances ultimately bore an affair, one that was kept behind closed door.

The blissful time they spent together didn't last, however, Merideth ended the relationship following his graduation and later revealed that his feelings were in fact, never mutual. Faced with a reminder of what they should be, he had no choice but to back away. With his motivation chipped off and the reassurance to loosen up now that he had acquired a degree, the young man decided to halt his pursue of knowledge in favor of expanding his experience. Thus the next two years did not go to complete waste, it even granted him the opportunity to rekindle his bonds with some familiar faces of the past, two being Kurenai Asai and Mercredi Paradis who ultimately inspired him to regain enough motivation to continue his studies. His choice once again landed on his former educational institution, namely Crestwood University, simply for its convenient location. And so he was off to a start, now with the intent of pursuing a more focused study where he could contribute to the exploration of the ocean frontier...and taking it easy while he's at it.
