There was something about it that was eerily familiar, yet Jae could not have placed it if he wanted to. He looked curiously at the rest of the dolls littered across the floor; their beautiful porcelien faces broken in. Julius was still standing in the doorway, his eyes following Jae around the room. Once Jae had set down the all too familiar doll, a wide and almost mischevious grin broke across his face."Familiar, isn't it?"
Jae nodded absent mindedly. "Why?" He whispered.
"My dolls.. they're based off of the dead. But the dead don't like that you see."
"This doll..." He gulped. "The person you based her after isn't dead."
He laughed. "That's why she's not broken, you see. Because the dead don't like being portrayed at all- it makes them envious. So I break the dolls. It's better that way."

The drawing is of Julius' doll, the one based off the person 'still alive'.

How gorgeous~! She looks so adorable, and those eyes are just too pretty. <3 Her expression is so sweet as well. c: The amount of details you put into this, it's simply astounding. Amazing job with the shading once again, the blending looks really great as with the colour combinations you used. Lovely work with that!

I'm still working on her design, but I've some doll pics posted as concepts. Hold on a sec... [link] and [link] The dolls are like golems containing the spirits of animals. Basically the same look, but I need to update the doll design too.
Ugh, that sketch looks terrible, haha. -Everybody- thinks their art looks pretty bad after a couple months. As you get more skilled, you'll notice more mistakes with other people's art also, so you sort of have to learn how to look at a story or art critically and pick out mistakes and also be able to let go of that critical mindset sometimes and just enjoy a story despite its flaws.

The spirit of aimals.. How does that play into the rest of the story? Does the main plot revolve around these dolls and the spirits?
Ah, I know what you mean.. Though I still feel really bad when I critique anything T_T I feel like I don't have the right to; not when I've made some of the same mistakes before and still do D:

Hmm...the main plot is all about hunting beasts and ogres that come from other worlds and Sunny and Suzi are the main characters, it's a tiny bit like that Supernatural show. The dollmaker is a rival hunter who is actually involved from the first issue, so I can't say much about her.
You shouldn't feel bad about looking at another person's work critically as long as you keep in mind that no artist is better than another, no artist is perfect, definitely not ourselves. Another artist will be better than you at some things, worse than you at doing other things. You don't have to share your critiques with other people, but a critical eye will help you improve your own art and help you gauge how far your skills have come. Every time you look at a picture, find one thing they did very well and one thing that didn't work so well.

Yeah, I tend to do that now just out of habit- It really helps me improve too; I look at their mistakes and compare it to my own work just to see if I've done it more effeciently o_o; In most cases, I haven't though which is why I never give critiques XD

Yeah, I don't like giving critiques, I just try to give advice to my friends here or younger artists that seem like they sincerely want some input. It's too much hassle to say anything to people that don't want to hear it. I look at things critically all of the time though, it can be a hassle when I just want to sit down and enjoy a manga and keep seeing a bunch of mistakes in it. That's the price you pay for improving, but if you're looking at something that right way, you can see a lot of the hidden ways it works well too, so it's rewarding also.
I'm thinking of giving the dolls crow wings because that would be fitting for how I envision the rival character. I can see her using them like falcons too, haha. One, Pipiru, will have white hair and the gothic look like the pictures I showed you and the other, Rurupi has a frilly sort of punk look like Nana O. I drew some sketches that look nice. Later, I'm thinking she might make a bigger golem out of a manikin body, maybe. That might be cool, but it'd be kind of silly. It'd make more sense for the girl herself to be able to fight a bit, I'm not sure.

I don't do that as much with manga because I know the skill of the artist just by looking at their pictures but I do pick out a few mistakes here and there every once in a while. But I don't really complain about it; no artwork is perfect so I don't much mind the little mistakes here and there.
o_o That would be awesome <3 Actually, whether she actually fought or not.. I think she would be a strong character anyways ^^ I mean, if she was the one that made the dolls then she's still strong; just in a more mental perspective. I like to think that not every hero/villain has to be able to fight; that they can fight through other means. But then again, I guess it all depends on the character's developement and such- and the roll they play O.O Who they're up against, etc..

Well, she's not actually that strong, she relies on the dolls mainly and she fights a little dirty. She thinks she's a little more clever than she really is though, haha.
