Etalyn and Tani don't get to work together much for rank reasons, only when they manage to switch duty with somebody. At one such occasion they run into said wolf-person, who surprisingly knows how to fight. Tani tries too long to hit him with his firearm, gets tackled down, and when Etalyn tries to help, he gets chomped hard in the wrist. His protective gloves take the worst edge off the damage, but his wrist still gets pretty mangled. Without them though he would probably have been permanently crippled. That way, he can actually continue to fight for a bit, and by the time his hand gets too bad, he and Tani have won. And for once, the two get over themselves and do the right thing. They allow the wolfdude, who does look rather pathetic once subdued, to slip away. Nobody dies, everybody feels mighty heroic.
