Description
Some tribes of merfolk believe that each old enough object created by any living thing becomes a perfect place for a lost soul to take rest and start a new life. They say coral turtles are pieces of massive coral reefs haunted by souls of sea turtles. In fact, coral turtles were created by one underwater wizard who was obsessed with beauty of corals and felt desperate every time his beautiful coral garden fade away. Once, he had a dream of a giant floating coral reef in shape of a turtle, its eyes light blue, mindful, sparkling like there were stars on their very bottoms. He took it for a sign and started experimenting with spells and ingredients, getting an itch to make a creature which could leave its habitat in case of climate changes and find the perfect water conditions by itself. After a while, his experiments were crowned with success and a few coral turtles appeared. These were large creatures covered with some different sets of corals growing out of their bodies, porous yet firm. Unfortunately for the wizard, it turned out that they had a great appetite, and as he was half a human half a squid, his squid part immediately attracted their attention. Consumed with admiring the perfection of his creation, he didn’t notice the danger and became the creatures’ first dinner.
Nowadays coral turtles are extremely small in numbers yet; they are understudied and most of their features are still unknown for it is quite a task to find at least one of them. But if you do, the view is spectacular to observe for the creatures may reach a size of a blue whale and who knows when exactly they would stop growing! Just imagine a huge platform covered by colorful corals with the whole ecosystem aboard, living in its pores, holes and caverns, which is slowly floating through the ocean in search for the perfect place to stay and have a good long sleep.
