Description
In a valley which name is lost in time as it has never been plotted on any map stands a village. Its streets are hollow, not a single shadow could be seen behind the houses’ windows and not a single window bursts with light at night as the village was left long ago. Whatever season is out there, winter always reigns supreme within its borders. You nimble traveler can notice that the closer you come to an old well which is in very center of the village, the stronger comes frost, and your teeth start dancing in your mouth when you bow to have a look inside it. The well is sealed with a thick layer of ice, and pairs of golden circles, suddenly sparkling here and there in the darkness underneath it, make you shrug of fear and spring backward before these unknown creatures could notice your presence. The creatures are pale kappas, which prefer settling in wells, pools, ponds and other human-made water reservoirs (at once, one of them was found in a large old barrel full of rain water).Kappas of the kind are hostile to humans for they have been changing kappas’ natural habitat, so you’d better be careful meeting one. A bowl on a kappa’s head is a source of its magical power and live energies while it is filled with water from a place it lives in. It is known, meeting a kappa you should bow to it, then it would bow to you in response and the water will pour out leaving the creature with no power - but the usual trick wouldn’t work with pale kappas. The only way to stop them is freezing their reservoir and the area around it forever. Then even if any kappa finds its way out, its bowl will stay frozen and the creature could do no harm to anyone.
