Description oils on luaun/luan

inspired in part by some of the verses from
The Greatest Show On Earth
by The Feeling

I don't wanna stay anymore
I'm gettin out that's for sure
How could I leave here alone
Honey won't you please come along?
Let's get outta here

Take what you need nothing more
We've got a lot to explore
Fear of the world kept us in
Safe from the dirt & the sin
& yes I'm terrified coz when you're out you know there's no return

I don't wanna be in this house no more
Gotta get out they're boring the hell outta me
I don't wanna be in this house no more
I gotta get outta here before it kills me
It's gonna kill me

WOW!

This is truly art itself, I'm so very amazed at this. I honestly thought it was a photo, and my eyes rarely fail me like that. Excellent beyond words, and a definite fave.

Thanks!
Luan is a type of wood, it's used for flooring. It's sold in thin sheets like ply-wood, but it's not compressed particle board like ply-wood
anyhoo, it's cheaper than canvas especially when you know someone in construction & get as much as you want

ummmm not sure..... maybe if you use the back (the smoother side) & a few of layers of gesso to give it some tooth, it might work

darronlee In reply to sweetp409 [2008-03-06 21:48:05 +0000 UTC]

does Luan have a rough texture

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

sweetp409 In reply to darronlee [2008-03-21 12:39:39 +0000 UTC]

No, it's super smooth, but a bit of gesso does the trick. The only part I've found that's really tricky is using a knife on the board, it doesn't break the paint the same way it would on canvas

I always wanted to learn how to get that lighting effect on a traditional painting

sweetp409 In reply to the-wandering-artist [2008-03-05 03:21:52 +0000 UTC]

let the bottom layer dry, add a thin coat of linseed (I do mean thin) then add the next super thin layer of color

Thanks for the fav!!
