Description Racoon - at home on the ground or in a tree. This one seems pretty happy, but it is having a bad tail day.

Great posing. What is up with his tail, though?

It is probably due to overgrooming, which is pretty common in racoons kept in captivity. They get so bored that they over groom themselves, sometimes to the point of self mutilation which really isnt that uncommon amoung caged animals. If he wasn't caged in past, the problem might also be a birthmark. When a mother racoon is having difficulty giving birth, she'll often use her teeth to help pull the baby out of herself. Alot of the time she'll end up snipping the babys tail short, and maybe in this case it just damaged the end of his tail enough to prevent fur growth.

I think its a really cute picture. There arent really a lot of racoons on deviant art.

Agree with kiwiplum a bit fuzzy around the head area ?movement artifact. But otherwise a great shot. Nice pose. How do you get them to do that!!!

Aww, this guy's cute, look at those big eyes! This image is good, I like how the sun is just accentuating the edges of his fur and ears. Curious, where are his other legs? I think I can make one out hanging in the air behind the two on the limb, but can't find the other, and I don't see another limb anywhere in the photo that it could be on. Well, just wondering. The image is a bit fuzzy, especially around the head area, but it looks good. Is that a bit of spider silk in the foreground, just catching the light? Very cool, great shot

Did I mention the killer back-lighting ?

The back lighting really gives this a pro look. I always try for that " backlighting look " and rearly get it. I got a few down in FL last week but not meny. This a really good racoon-in-it's-environment shot.

You've captured a great moment. The colors of the shot are great and the actual shot gives me a feeling of fright and flight.
