How beautiful! Papercutting looks so delicate, and it must take so much work to keep everything smooth, and prevent the paper from tearing~! I love the attention to detail with all those leaves, and that little bunny is so cute~!

how do you have the patience for these? and do you use regular scissors or a blade? because i am always on the verge of breaking my papercuts with my crayola scissors. also, where do you get the ideas?

Hehe, they are therapy for me, thus I don't get bored doing them. I use an X-Acto knife for mine because I can't cut easily with tiny scissors. Some of my ideas originally came from Dover scrollsaw fretwork pattern books (designs which I changed-up a lot) and others are my own designs. If you're looking for hints, tips, patterns, advice, etc. from other papercutters, please come and join my Scherenschnitte group!: [link]

Sorry I didn't reply to this sooner, but I must have missed this comment...The time it takes me varies; sometimes it takes a few hours, sometimes a few days--a week at most.

All of these are quite lovely; do you use scissors, or a xacto, or both?

Thank you! I mainly use x-acto.

do you draw your designs on the back and then cut out?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

swandog In reply to KreepingSpawn [2006-01-22 19:23:17 +0000 UTC]

If I'm working with parchment, then I sometimes draw the pattern on the backside, but if I use black paper, I just print out my designs and lay the printout over the black paper, tape it down, then cut thru both layers.

These are very good. It's an interesting media and the attention to detail is very good. The leaves very good I like the way you've hidden animals among the branches.
How big is it in a real life?

(Sorry for the delayed reply--this message got buried deep in my inbox.) Thanks for the comment; in real life this pic is 8.5x11, if I recall correctly.
