Indeed the figures nestled tightly within the segments are reminiscent of brains, I also think this could be a coral figure. Interesting pattern you chose for texture in any case.
Do you use circle pallets my friend?

Brains was the inspiration for this one, but I've chosen not to give it more definition as I did in my last venture into brain territory. I don't know what a cirle pallet is so I guess the answer in no, although I do use a compass to provide some boundaries to help hold my pieces together.
