Well, it's hardly perfect, but I'm glad somone thinks so! There's a conversation I have on my "Only Honor" picture about how I ink, and it's not very patient!

Ah, I think you're pretty talented. And you're going in a very different direction than myself, so I find that comparison moot. You're what? 19? I've got roughly two years on you, give or take. With some practice and effort you'll be making me look like a fool in no time!

I was just browsing galleries on DA when I came across yours and--woah! This is really a knockout piece. I really love the shading; it gives it that old style-engraving feel without overstyling the picture. Fantastic!

Thank you very much. This piece was the progression of several ideas for me. I'm happy that it turned out the way it did!

Irony of ironies, this wasn't even intended to be the Death Dealer piece that I set out to do! It was a sketch I did in, of all things, a church to take my mind off things! I really like the sketch so with a little extra time and effort it ended up, well, this! Glad you like it!

Of all things, it's the composition that I owe to Mark. I spent about an hour and half hanging out with him after a portfolio review at my college (I snuck in after to get him to autograph my copy of Conan!) He invited me back the next day to drop by after a workshop he was teaching to look at my stuff (as I am not a sequential art major). He made a comment how Frazetta's art doesn't really have that much blood and even less gore. That it's mostly writhing bodies and raised weapons. I bore that in mind while doing this piece. Gary's influence comes with the mad hatching, which I enjoy doing from time to time to break up my usual tendency to Sin City-ish flat black and whites.
Brush and I don't get along so well. We've had an "okay" relationship, but the sex just wasn't good enough if you know what I mean? I'm just not very intuitive with it, nor am I very patient. I work fast and in spurts, so pens have alwasy served me best. DDT was done in a combination of a pentel ball point v5 something or other (I really dig em') and this little cheap scrapbooking marker/pen that I picked up to sketch with while waiting to get Bruce to autograph my "Hey, space sushi!" picture. I enjoy using crowquill a ton more, but my good one broke a while ago and I haven't gotten a new one yet.

As Lovecraft also is the master of suggestive "blood and gore".

Ah yes, his horrors are always just beyond mortal conception. Cthulhu, for instance is almost entirely represented through his statuette and feint mentions of him in the necronomicon, yet the entire mythos is named after him!
