Description Turiasaurus riodevensis

Temporal Range: Late Jurassic-Early Cretaceous, 145 Ma

Etymology: Riodeva reptile of Turia (Teruel)

Length: Est. around ~21 metres
Probable mass: Around ~30 tonnes

It was once believed to be the largest dinosaur ever found in Europe. Turiasaurus was a giant, estimated at over 20 metres in length with a mass in the range of ~30 tonnes. It was once estimated to be ~30-37 metres long with a mass of ~40-48 tonnes, but those estimates aren't based on any accurate reconstruction.

Fragmentary remains of this animal, including an articulated left forelimb (holotype), skull fragments, teeth, vertebrae and ribs, have been found in terrestrial deposits of the Villar del Arzobispo Formation of Riodeva (Teruel Province, Eastern Spain). The type species, Turiasaurus riodevensis, was described by Royo-Torres, Cobos & Alcala, in 2006.

I remember the old 30m+ estimates...I was always very suspicious of them....

Not just yours...of such high numbers in general.

Yeah, but since there was no other estimates, and the reference for the older version had a highly exaggerated tail, I had no choice. When I saw 's skeletal, I started working on the massive update.
