Thank you. Although, to be honest, drawing a garden wall meant that I didnt have to draw the rest of the buildings ^_^

I've always loved the balance of function and style in Renaissance-era armor.Β  And it certainly shows to great effect here -- Extra points for the townscape!

Thank you. The renaissance is the golden age of armor. Most people's image in thier mind of what medieval armor looks like is really renaissance armor. Thanks for the extra points, haha, more effort went into the background than I originally planned.

That's the panel. Took the upper part and adapted it into more of a (kinda) Landsknecht officer outfit.

Can indeed never go wrong with DΓΌrer. Probably one of few even among the old masters who was not only skilled, but genuinely talented. On the metaphorical mountain of artistry, one won't find Albrecht climbing but endlessly orbiting; having gotten high enough to slip and fall into microgravity.

Still, must agree with BillyDBunny that the technicalities of the execution aside, do prefer this character design. DΓΌrer's take is a more direct representation of a well-off contemporary military man, but yours seems to contain more individual character history. The long tunic rather than exposed hose and codpiece emphasize the livery aspect, and open for a number of guesses concerning his employer; it appears to be rather the stable, grounded household, displaying wealth in the time-honed medieval manner with generously spent cloth as much as with the extravaganze of recent fashions. The trimmed Tudor bonnet (rarely see one in bright colours; got to give sewing one up a try if I can find some good red velvet) also seems to hint that he has probably not been hired just because he models his lord's colours neatly, but that under the velvet is a seasoned warrior and force to be reckoned with: The bonnet sits quite low even with the flexibility of the vulpine ear - perhaps he wears it lopsided specifically to the right to hide a painful reminder of the last campaign with the free company?

There are some details that stand out as odd. The proper right arm is very short - when idle, the fingertips usually reach halfway down the outside of the thigh - but it could be a matter of lighting making it unclear how the elbow is bent. Also the spaulder does not seem to deform the puffy sleeve. But the deliberate detail is lovely, with the pheasant feathers and the gold trim. The evenly duplicated detail on the trim is especially impressive - at this resolution, getting it this smooth and neat seems a monumental achievement.

Thank you and yeah, that arm stuff was just an error.

By the way, about that hat...

Would that be velvet or felt? And would the brim be left plain, starched, or perhaps have a support sewn in?

SouthpawLynx In reply to Tinselfire [2019-07-14 14:37:51 +0000 UTC]

Velvet I think. felt would be too thick I think. And the brim somewhere between plain and supported, so no wire or anything but with extra layers so it can keep some shape but still flex a bit

Tinselfire In reply to SouthpawLynx [2019-07-20 14:59:11 +0000 UTC]

Ah, I see. Was pondering if the brim might be held up by a strip of willow or maple shoot, but might be too fragile in the long run.

SouthpawLynx In reply to Tinselfire [2019-07-21 03:58:22 +0000 UTC]

Probably and I personally would not want the brim too stiff.
