Comment:
"In the paradise of the Heavens, the goddess Izantis sat within the petals of her Mother Flower, contemplating. 'I wish to have a child.' she said, 'A child that will sing and dance like scattering petals on the wind." So the goddess poised herself and settled into deep meditation, willing her body to create a seed. Days passed, weeks passed, months, and years. Until one day finally her eyes opened and she folded her hands upon her lap, she took one breath, and pulled from her inner most heart, a tiny glowing seed.

The seed was placed in one of the many sacred pools, loving tucked into the murkiness blew to grow. And so it grew. Grew and grew until a large lotus blossom began to appear. The scent of the blossom was unlike any other, far different than the scent of Kishanti or Izantis herself. This strange scent reached far, so far that it called to a giant cobra. The snake traveled far, slithering across the Earth and Sky, creating rivers and grooves in its wake. Finally did the serpent reach the Paradise, coiling himself tightly around the growing flower of the Goddess's child.

She did not drive the creature away, knowing that it had come to protect the flower and that also it was drawn by the scent. So the snake remained until one day the blossom bloomed. Bursting forth in a flurry of joyous singing and dancing came her son. His skin dark and rich like the mud the flower took root in with a mane as wild and white as the lotus he sprang from. His many arms gestured in heavenly signs, forming beautifully about him, a leonine tail lashing at his back like a vine. However, the most noticeable feature of the new god was his small bound waist, the place where the snake had wrapped about the blossom.

'Mother Devi, Mother Devi! I am your son! Your son whom needs a name.' he sang. The goddess smiled, reaching out to her child and taking one of his hands, 'I shall call you Nagendra, Lord of Snakes.' His face illuminated with pure joy as he returned to his blossom and began to dance. The snake that coiled about it lifted himself up, splaying his hood as he swayed and sang with his charge. It was thus that the God of the Lotus Snake was born."

Meet Nagendra!
His name is Hindi for Lord of Snakes, and he is the son of Izantis - [link] and another god that deals with flora and partly fauna. He is associated with the Cobra and water snakes as well as the white lotus. Nagendra is a happy guy that loves to sing and dance, which makes everyone happy. XD

This is the first time that I've ever drawn a humanoid character with multiple limbs, and its HARD. Omg, I had so much trouble with where the second set of arms connect, but it worked out in the end. I really really love his tiny waist fffff omg, waist cinching so much love. He's doing a sort of hip drop/ hip roll spin thing, I dunno. XD He's just being Nagendra~ Overall, I love this piece so so much, and will probably do a larger one of him some day just because. <333

I think there was something in the Hindu mythology about small waists being considered a divine feature, in that sense he's sure a full scale deity! XD I love the fact he's cinched it with something that seems like a silky scarf, it just adds softness to his waist and he's probably not going to have those horrible bruises that come with fastening leather belts too tight XD In general, i really love the iconic quality of the whole picture, how it doesn't look overly realistic but it looks more like a religious illustration made centuries and centuries ago. I really love it when a modern artist can achieve this effect, when you look at the picture nad you can't tell it was drawn in 2010, in fact you can't even tell exactly what century it belongs to... Oh, and because he's Lord of Snakes, for some reason it really made me imagine all kind of contortion practicioners in his temple XD Though i'm not sure, maybe snakes weren't really associated with contortion in India, but i could really imagine a celebration in Nagendra's temple, involving all kinds of snakes, snake charmers and dancing contortionists having their bodies painted with snakeish patterns <333

Thank you so much hun!
I'm glad it came across as a more iconic illustration! That was what I was aiming for, kinda like I did in another piece a few years ago - [link] . I love the religious illustrations like that, they're so beautiful to me.

I hadn't even thought of that! It would be interesting to see all the people gathered at his temple performing, hmmm *rubs chin* I think you might have just given me a really ambitious idea! X3

I love that backstory! It was so wonderful and cheerful I thought you had maybe found it among an actual ancient legend but you wrote it?? Well done! I would love to meet this wonderful Nagendra, he looks like so much fun to play with. I really adore his waist too and the awesome story behind it. His multiple limbs rock and I love his wild white hair!

Thanks~
He's not a human being, but a flower, and a god on top of that. XD So he really doesn't have all the organs we would.

The background for this pleases me immensely. He's such a lovely character! I especially love his hair for some reason. So pretty and white! *claps hands for good arts*
