Been feeling like drawing more portraits lately, so heres another one...This time the culprit is Yin from "Darker Than Black"...
Youve probably noticed that I always go for serious/dreamy expressions on my drawings, but Yin is so adorable that I added a bunch of cuteness and teasing to my usual mix (worked surprisingly well)
In terms of coloring its also a much more anime style than usual, and I even added those red shiny skin parts which are an anime trademark, though I usually dont like that because people overdo it, so I kept it pretty soft just to make the whole thing warmer
Also, I wanted it to have a strong focus on the left bare neck/shoulder area because its just incredibly sensual when done right... It just gives her a vulnerable/fragile feel, I love it
Feel free to suggest characters youd like to see portraits of (only girls though
)

The soft colours make it easy to look at, but, from her shoulders down, it seems her body is a bit off... Arms too thin, the right part below her chest that curves outwards doesn't look right... =/
Apart from that her face, hair and all, look great

Just finished "Gemini of the Meteor" today so i recognized her instantly

I like it, think it needs a little work though.
I think you achieved the vulnerability of her neck/shoulder well, and I like her hair a lot! I just feel like the way both her arms are completely hidden behind her back looks a little awkward.
Overall though, I think you did a good job.

Yeah a lot of people seem to think that way, its just one of those weird things, because as I said below, if you try to do the same pose in the mirror, the arms really do disappear in a weird shape
Oh well, I played a lot with the arms and I found this to match the rest of the expression the best, so yeah... Now Ill just move on to something else

If you look at the center of the eyes she indeed looks cross-eyed 
As for the pose, yeah well, seems to be a hit or miss so far, I do believe its one of the things that makes it charming, but I can see how people think its weird and unnatural

I don't think "charming" is the word I would use. It's very uncomfortable, and I can't imagine a person actually sitting that way. Try to sketch out anatomy using a posing doll before you draw; it could probably help a lot.

I was going to say something decent about the picture, but since you're being a total bitch to anyone who gives you critique, I'll just say this sucks and doesn't deserve to be on the front page, which you abused to get here.

Not sure what to say about the critiques, I replied politely to all of them and justified my reasoning... If that qualifies as "bitching" so be it
Oh, and what do you think is front page worthy btw? That watch pic that sits there everyday? Or the random photograph of a chinese building? Lol, dont make me laugh, there are TONS of people more deserving of front page than the ones currently in it

Nice soft colors, I would fix the iris in the right eye though. Moving it over to the middle will dramatically help this piece.

Ive actually played around with the positions of the eyes a bit since I posted it and it mostly got worse only, so yeah... And then again, this is "finished" already, Id rather work on something new

I mean, I take every critique in mind and they always make me look at the pic again to indeed confirm if its true etc, but as for fixing it? Well... I think after you spend a certain amount of time in something, its done... If you keep trying to improve it forever, youll never finish anything

Ill try to keep it short
1 - Everything you see flagged as spam is in fact, spam... Or are you not aware that there are bots spamming every pic that shows up in popular every day?
2 - Youve been here for 8 years and Im the first person you see doing this? There are tons of mis-categorized pics on here everyday, and that is exactly the reason I started doing it... Every day the same stupid categories go the front page regardless of the quality or whatever, always conceptual watch photography, random crappy nude, some exterior pic from whatever the other guy is... Since Im not happy with the system, Im doing something about it
3 - Tons of people have mentioned there should be more popular sections because of this problem and I agree completely, I dont know why they havent implemented them yet
4 - Why do you bother coming all the way around here just to spread hate? You know what I do when I see a mis-categorized pic or just one that I dont like on the front page? I dont click on it... Why would I care? None of my business, and the DA staff is the one that needs to fix the problem, not me

FYI, my account is old, Ive only really been active for about a year and a half. Nonetheless, it bothers me, because like you, I aspire to be have lots of exposure as well. So it can be irritating that I keep trying, and working hard, and then someone like you comes along and call's your character drawing a "Car" and BAM.
Although, yanno, maybe you're right. maybe I should mis-categorize my art from now. I'm not even kidding. Because it seems to work every time like you said, and if no one cares, why should I?
So yeah, in the end I think I'll try that from now one. This has all actually kind of convinced me

The few people I know who do it as well all think the same way, I actually laugh if I see someone take me out of popular because their cartoon is in transportation (happened a few weeks ago)...
Until DA fixes it, Im just going along for the ride and making the most I can out of it
