Don's uncle, Rocco Delillo owned a pastry shop on 187th Street near Arthur Avenue in the old Italian neighborhood in the Bronx. Rocco and my father were good friends. I'm 65, a little younger than Don. We are both graduates of Fordham U (Go Rams). I wonder if we ever met at the shop. I've read a number of Don's novels. It's amusing to think that America's greatest novelists comes from the old neighborhood. Incidentally DeLillo's is still there and they still make my favorite cookies.

I like Underworld, but it's not for everyone. It's structure is complex and most of it is told backwards. DeLillo goes backs to his roots. One part of the book is set in his old neighborhood. the Belmont section of the Bronx. Also the first part is about Bobby Thomson's famous home run. Bobby and I became friends later in his life.
