With finals over, I am so excited to have the time to make fan art! I've wanted to do a drawing like this ever since I first saw the show. Sweeney Todd is one of my favorite musicals, so I'm very excited for the movie!I tried to base the characters on my mental images rather than on the new movie, but I did want to draw Johnny's Sweeney. Any other Mrs. Lovett looked pretty weird with him. Patti LuPone's is my favorite.

The only version I've ever seen was Tim Burton's movie but I really loved it a lot and it's one of my favorite movies of all time (I really love dark gothic comedies and storiesΒ like this and Sleepy Hollow (also directed by Tim Burton) plus The Addams Family & Addams Family Values).
Out of all the characters the only ones I truly felt sorry for were Johanna and Toby because they were the most innocent and never did anything wrong. I didn't even feel that sorry for Sweeney Todd aka Benjamin Barker because while he was wronged by that corrupt Judge Turpin who destroyed his family and ruined his life he ultimately turned out to be just as evilΒ a monsterΒ as Turpin was along with Ms. Lovett when they were killingΒ all the strangers who never did anything to them and cut theirΒ corpsesΒ up into meat pies to serve to unknowing customers so that Ms. Lovett could make a sizable profit off their deaths (and to dispose of the bodies and evidence). Ms. Lovett I think turned out to be the worst of all because she was a completely heartless opportunist who took advantage of other people's grave misfortune all while wearing the guise of a quirky and charming pieshop lady. She pretty much always lied to everyone she knew including Sweeney and Toby to get what she wanted and Toby in the end still failed to see what a monster sheΒ really was because he thought of her as a mother figure and didn't realize she was going to have him killed just to keep him from going to the police with his suspicions about Mr. Todd (he never even suspected that she might somehow be involved too). I think out of all of them she was most definitely a true sociopath.

Actually now that I see all 6 of these characters together I realize that the nicer characters were all pretty young (Johanna, Anthony, and Toby) while the really evil ones were all a bunch of old people (Sweeney Todd, Ms. Lovett, and Judge Turpin). I wonder what the point is with that? XD

Despite all the horrid things that happened, there was still a happy ending! Β Joanna Lived! Β And Anthony got a carraige, so the two lived happily! Β

Actually I'm not sure if that was true in the musical or not (I've never seen the musical) but in the Tim Burton movie it never really showed what Joanna didΒ after Sweeney Todd almost killed her. I felt it was kind of left up to the viewer's assumption like maybe she still waited for Anthony to return with the carriage and they were able to run away together or maybe she was too scared to remain in the barber shop after seeing Sweeney murder those people and almost killing her and she might have run out into the streets with nowhere else to really go which wouldn't have been a very happy ending for her.

I know in the original musical, her and Anthony go to the cellar right after toby has killed Sweeney, and are both horrified!

Oh wow! I kind of wish the Tim Burton movie showed what happened to Joanna, Anthony, and Toby after Sweeney ToddΒ and Mrs. Lovett got killed in the end but it was still a great movie IMO and one of my favorites.

Really wonderful drawing!!! A great tribute to Sweeney Todd, the movie, and Mrs. Lovett never looked that wonderful in a drawing like this. Both cartoony and sexy!! Real nice, sockie! Nothing much to say!

That is awesome. I went to a play adaption before I saw the movie, and I thought the play was better, honestly. The song, Kiss Me is good, and missing in the movie, even if Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter are in it. It's still good, it's just that the play was better.

She *points to Mrs. Lovett* loves him, *points to Sweeney*, who wants to kill him *points to Judge Turpin*, because he thinks that least his *points to Sweeney* wife is dead, but doesn't know that his daughter *points to Johanna* is still alive and is practically a prisoner of him *points to Judge*. However, a young man that met the barber early in the film, *points to Anthony* is in love with her *points to Johanna*. And he *points to Toby* is just brought up into this tight and somewhat confusing web of details.
