Description - last of an ancient barbarian race of cat-lords, and yet to declare his regency...

...hmm, sounds kinda familiar...

- just taken this photo (well, one of a series) out in the garden again, but things just aren't working out right digicam-wise, light-wise, or whatever, could not get meself a better one than this... hopefully the shots I got with my real camera will turn out better, but really I think the day's just wrong for it all...then again, bad workmen blame their tools, and all that.

- anyway, finished this geezer a couple of days or so ago, extremely late christmas prezzie for my big brother: Prince Smilo Thylax, sabretooth - think I might have overdone it on the tiger-y side of things, though, he might've been better with slightly less emphasis on the striping, I was going for a suggestion of the beginnings of what would evolve into tiger stripes in later generations, but then kinda got carried away when I got to the face. Hmm, anyroad - today's been the first day - not at work, not raining, not just grimly overcast - that's been anything like good enough for any kind of pic of this sorta stuff, but really could've done with a bit of cloud-cover up there so's there wasn't such a glare off the sword and stuff, and the colours are too washed out....maybe I'll post again if and when I get a better one, might just stick with more of a studio-kinda pic...

very neat piece of work. looks very intelligent... in a cave-man-y sort of way.

- yup, all by my own mucky mitts from start to finish - can't take credit for the scenery though, that's just nature gettin' wild and wooly...anyway, thanks for the compliments

Many thanks! - still reckon he needs a bit of a better setting, but he's living at my brother's house now, so the photo-opportunties are few and far between...

snuurg In reply to joshjosh [2004-04-03 04:57:43 +0000 UTC]

- this and all my 'Wyrdworld' characters are made at 1/6th scale - about equivalent to Action Man/ G.I. Joe kinda size - so in scale-size terms this fella would stand about eight and a half feet tall or more...

Well, for all the flaws everybody's talking about with the colouring and the photo and whatever, it still looks superb to me. I love his hands and face, and the pose! I also like your backyard, or wherever he is!

snuurg In reply to Rayfan [2004-01-21 18:12:43 +0000 UTC]

- thanks, rayfan - think the place needs a bit of a dash-round with the old weed-burner, or in any case it could maybe do with a bit more green going on around the place - can't really expect too much with the seasonas it is, though...

Excellent work as usual. Is the sword made of the same stuff? ...and is it meant to be broken?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

snuurg In reply to jax0n [2004-01-19 17:59:32 +0000 UTC]

...the sword is a length of 3mm-thick perspex, quick dash on the belt-sander to shape it - and yup, meant to be broken - not a terribly original idea I know, but then again nobody ever accused a certain Mr. Tolkien of being entirely original either...taht's my excuse, anyway...heh.

His head looks like it's coming out of his chest, and the wrinkles on his cheek give it away that he's a sculpture.
Otherwise, this is fantastic work per usual. I friggen love that sword, I dunno how the hell you do this.

snuurg In reply to darkvvulf [2004-01-18 21:36:57 +0000 UTC]

- yeah, the angle doesn't do any favours for his short neck, does it? and the bleaching of the colours has taken the shadow out too that'd make the head-to-body division more obvious - gah, it's such a gyp when you can't manage the exact photo you wanna get, think it'll have to wait 'till I can have a better crack at it....haven't done justice to the big lad with this shot, really - bums.

- anyhoo, glad of the comments, as always...

how do you make those, anyway?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

snuurg In reply to IndinaMarie [2004-01-19 19:06:44 +0000 UTC]

- a few details of the process - basically sculpt the main carcass of the thing using plasticene over aluminium armature to build up the main bulk of the figure, then kind of build a 'skin' over that with an epoxy putty known as milliput - they end up quite weighty by the end of it all, but good n' solid - this one's about 11 inches tall...
