Description - here you go then folks, it's that Magnum lad with axe included - please do your best to resist the temptation offered by references to his 'big chopper' (ha, beat you to it!).

...hmph, lost focus a bit, which was the problem before and the reason for cutting the axe out of the previous pic - need to tinker with me aperture a bit, if you'll pardon the expression - and sort out the old depth of field cobblers.

- anyway, I'll leave it with yer - a picture says a grand's worth, as they reckon - so I'll shut me gob and let him get on with it...

- yep, I reckon that would be very painful - but then again, probably not for very long, as I\'m just as sure it\'d all be over very quickly afterwards...

AH yes, seeing as how if you were sliced by something over twice your size (if this was to scale)... You'ld probably die.

Unless your superhuman. But then you wouldn't be sliced in the first place, you'ld dodge it. Or something. WOW I had too much coffee today O.O

Wow, this is superb, soooo lifelike. Was it cast or carved?. I must have a look at some more of your stuff.

snuurg In reply to mr-miley [2004-12-13 18:55:01 +0000 UTC]

- actually, it sort of involves bits of several processes - a bit of casting, some carving, but mostly straight-out sculpting: I tend to make the head, hands and feet for any armature first of all out of plasticene which I then mould and cast so's I've got a sturdy piece of stuff for those particular parts of the model, since they tend to get moved around a lot while I'm figuring out how the pose is going to go; sometimes I'll carve back some of what I've already sculpted if it's needed or if something's not quite right; but most of the rest of any given piece is sculpted on as successive layers or portions of the figure's body built up from my favoured medium, something called milliput...

Wow, thats realy interesting (sorry, I always think that sounds so sarchastic when its written down like that, its not meant that way). I used to use milliput when we used to do wargaming....hold on, I thought milliput came in small packs, how big are your pieces then?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

snuurg In reply to mr-miley [2004-12-21 19:31:57 +0000 UTC]

- yeah, I know what you mean with the 'really interesting' bit, it's hard to sound sincere in type, and even if you emphasise something it comes off as sarcasm instead...

...but yep, milliput's still in relatively small packs (about 113g if my anoraking skills are up to par) - and meanwhile this fella's about 9" tall to the top of his pointy little hat, roughly equivalent to 1/6th scale... it's just my favoured medium I guess, I've had a crack at most things that it's more or less possible to sculpt with (though still not sculpey as yet, ho hum), and my old mate milli's the one I keep coming back at - having said that though I've gotta re-familiarise meself with 'green stuff' again, I'm supposed to begetting busy with some miniature-work, and milliput isn't necessarily the best for that kinda thing.

I just had a vision of you standing in a studio with a 3/4 finished, Full Size Gorilla sculpture, knee deep in Milliput boxes, with it stuck in your hair and all over your clothes, on the phone to the 400th model shop, trying to get hold of more, as you'd bought nearly all the milliput in the country..... Odd what images the human brain can conjour up

WOW LOOK AT THAT BIG CHOP--!... ops, hehe, it looks awsome! He looks so real! I've been thinking about getting a miniature gorilla, to roam in my garden. You think the gnomes will get jealous?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

snuurg In reply to iwaslikeWEEE [2004-11-21 08:55:42 +0000 UTC]

- well, so long as he doesn't show any unwarranted interest in the lady gnomes, (gnome-ess-es? - doesn't seem to be a female equivalent for 'gnome' - guess they're like Tolkien-dwarves, it's hard to tell the difference... which I suppose means he probably wouldn't show 'em much interest in the first place) I reckon they'd all get on well enough, unless they were gonna get jealous of his impressive implement...

- heh, I ought to show you the gnomes I used to make, utter silly-ness-ity.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

iwaslikeWEEE In reply to snuurg [2004-11-21 10:37:41 +0000 UTC]

haha, well I suppose all the gnomes would look the same, the ladies would all have long white beards and they wouldnt exactly have any chemical odors for deferentientation. And gorillaz would probably go for something more banana-like.

I dare you to submit these utter silly ness essit teas. You've curiosed me.

...hmm, I will have to dig up the files from my days of garden-ornamenting, I think they're buried under the front step along with the key to my soul - it's a good thing you reminded me, 'cause I'd forgotten where I'd put that thing, my soul's been locked for ages - it'll need a right good spring-cleaning to get the spiderwebs out...

- thanks, much appreciated - and meanwhile, the good thing about plasticene though is at least you can have another crack at it if everything goes A/T - I still use plasticene for making the faces for most of these things for casting up, so's I don't lose anything to making a mess of it every now and again...

...not a slur on you anthro-modelling skills but the axe is the best part of this. Big, pointy, choppy things always do it for me....

I have a digi camera with auto-focus which is a pain in the arse for close-ups. Even in macro mode, it's guaranteed to focus on the wrong thing.

- well, everyone should own at least one big cutting-things-up device, I'd say... and yeah, still got a lot of getting-used-to to do with this photo-machine o' mine, used to know more or less exactly what I needed to be doing with my old Olympus SLR, but it's all gone back to the finding things out stage again with this thing... I also need to find out where the hell I put the macro-lens-adaptor that I got with it, hmm...

Saw your other animals. Nice work. This is the best me thinks cause you got yer guy in a good setting. some of the others are around grass twice the size of the model, and its obvious its teeny. this one, though, is in the right folliage and looks monsterous. had to see the others b4 I knew what was up, thought it was a huge statue or that u had digitally put him in. nice job. yeah, DOF is off slightly, in hand and axe, but nice that up close folliage is blurred, and DOF almost works as is, kinda makes his hand look almost like slight motion blur. Gives a bit o life. BTW, you cant stop me!! hes got a teeny chopper where I grew up.
