Description Doomed for sure as the lurking blur coming from behind spells out the word death on your quivering mandibles.

You can just hear the 'hopper' now:

"Why me!?!"

Great shot, love the focus. Spiders are fascinating, as long as they stay at least 6 foot away.

Wow. This is a fantastic shot! I can just hear the little virgin grasshopper screeching as the native tribe chants. xD

I'm actually beginning to like spiders, if they're outside, where I can appreciate them in an open area. But if they ever come in my apartment, I'm going to go nuts. I get weird images of them crawling up my nose or something as I'm sleeping.

Thank you! I loved watching these guys in action.

OH I totally UNDERSTAND! I feel the same way. As long as they are outside....i'm cool....inside..I consider them a threat to my security

Nah...no poor grasshopper. There are like...30 of them in the backyard, 100 in the front yard and they eat your grass and trees, then they have sex everyday and make MORE grasshoppers.

Then...the poor spider. He has to spend hours making a web. Then he gets to SIT there...ALL day...waiting...waiting for SOMETHING to eat. ...while the grasshoppers have acres of feast before them. They can eat whenever they want...and fornicate all day. The spider...she has to eat 4 or 5 Grasshoppers until she has enough energy to make an egg sac.

So for me...I pity not the Grasshopper.

True...there are a lot of them...and yes, poor spider...even if I don't like them.

Wooow~ I learned something today!

It took some work, but I love it. I actually have another shot where the spider is in focus and the grass hopper is out of focus, but this one seemed better.

Oh, that's ok.

Insects don't bother me but I don't like spiders. It's their webs...

Yes, I know spiders aren't insects, but on the surface they're sort of similar. Generally small, exoskeletons, jointed legs...

Snigom In reply to WarmedOldMuslin [2007-12-04 15:17:37 +0000 UTC]

I'm sorry

Not intentionally. In the process of catching the bugger, his legs detached and tried to fly away. I still got him though.

I don't feel so bad. The spider has to eat...other wise she'd die. Thier webs are FAR to big with rather large gaps. They'd never catch one on their own. The Hoppers are too smart. In fact, as soon as you put one on the web, they struggle only for a split second. Then they sit perfectly still for numerous minutes. Sometimes, they are able to get away...other times not...
