Specifically for one of the contests at *TheKnotters . (So those of you who are members get to see this a few days early.
) The requirements for this contest were:-must be tribal knotwork
-width must not exceed 400 pixels
-must be an animal of some kind, either real or mythical
So I did the Midgard Serpent. :3 (Hmm, giving it some thought, maybe this is because I'm missing the Lego Vikings ship that comes with the 'Serpent... ;_; I'm so close to having all of the pretty dragons~) Anyway, so yeah, that's the "earth" there in the center, and so on.
This is the first time that I've done key/step patterns, and these gave me a good amount of trouble. It seems kind of mish-mashy style-wise, but I still like it anyway. ^^
Well, the original deadline was the 28th (tomorrow), but it's been extended a bit, so I figured I could be lazy and wait an extra day to post it.
I hadn't intended to cut so close to the deadline in the first place, but there were peripheral complications. >_>Original lineart with 0.5mm mechanical pencil, final version with Photoshop.

This is beautiful, and it runs a real close second for me in this contest because this reaches to my own spiritual roots and touches me where I live.
I think I would love to see this executed as a tattoo and hope someone wants to wear it, because it is fabulous. Only the Maori design by =elegaer edged past this, and that by a hair. It's a hard choice, and I had been inclining toward this but ultimately I'm an old handcrafter and would've liked it a hair more if you'd hand inked rather than used Photoshop. I had to decide on something, sorry it had to be something that petty. I hope to see it someday posted as a photo on someone's skin because it is truly incredible.

LOL -- now I feel a little better about my choice. Yours is great too and it's very hard. There are too many good ones... but =elegaer wound up going that one bold step farther doing something that takes a little thought to see the animal and understanding of its tribal context. I'd love to see that as a tattoo on someone too.
