Description Ok so I really only have MS paint and open canvas 1.1 at the moment. I haven't been too driven to need photoshop so you guys will just have to make due with a bare bones tutorial.

It's not like if I made this thing pretty it wouldn't convey the same info lol

Materials:
1/4 to 1/2 yard of fleece depending on the size of the plush
plush stuffing
matching thread
needles
pins
extra optional materials for details such as magnets, buttons, felt, alova and fabric glue

THE PATTERN CAN BE FOUND HERE

EDIT: I found a better tutorial which I think is easier to make. Less fumbling with tentacles.

Illuminati-genius [2013-06-18 15:33:13 +0000 UTC]

Would it be ok if I were to change the pattern a little, turning them in to actual squids, and then sell them?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SmellenJR In reply to Illuminati-genius [2013-06-19 02:14:51 +0000 UTC]

I would prefer that you not. If you plan on selling things, I think the best bet is to develop your own design and draft the pattern from that.

Illuminati-genius In reply to SmellenJR [2013-06-19 06:47:56 +0000 UTC]

Ok, I will do that then ^^ I was planning on making things that look more like actual squids, so I think it would need the whole pattern changing anyway ^^ So I'll make my own pattern. Would you like to see it once it's done though?

haha ty. In the description there is another tutorial you can consider that has a better end product imo. They look more like the ones in hussie's style.

I've seen a lot of patterns for Squiddles out on dA, but this one is the easiest to follow.
I've been thinking about cosplay Jade, which a Squiddle made by hand, so thanks.

There's a link to a better looking squiddle if you're interested. I posted it in the description.

I saw. That one was a little difficult. I do like yours better~

SmellenJR In reply to NeonPokemon [2012-02-18 06:06:48 +0000 UTC]

Hmm they could have made it simpler to follow but I think theirs is easier to implement than mine. The problem with mine is that it requires a hidden stitch in between all those other tentacles. But I mean, whatever works for you. Good luck and happy sewing c:

NeonPokemon In reply to SmellenJR [2012-02-18 17:11:41 +0000 UTC]

My Grandma would help me with the hidden stitch, she's a master at sewing. c:
Thanks!

If I made a giant version of this pattern and sold some plushies would you be offended?

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

YourShizzyHetalian In reply to nana030chan [2012-05-06 21:38:26 +0000 UTC]

You can't sell these because Andrew said that people can't sell any MSPA related stuff without his OK

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

SmellenJR In reply to nana030chan [2012-02-06 22:02:14 +0000 UTC]

nope! In fact there is a better pattern for you to use in the description that would be easier to make.

HOWEVER the squiddle IP belongs to andrew hussie so I would advise against selling homestuck plushies. General octopus or squid plushies sure but you should alter them so they're not so much squiddles. You need to ask for permission to sell items using his IP and there is a list somewhere of things that can't be sold (for respect of the author). Plushies and cosplay are big things on that list. Please consider respecting the original creator.

i'm gonna fish out all of my fleece and just make tons of squiddles. when i don't have enough for this size, i'll make tiny ones! :'D or...MAYBE I SHOULD START WITH A HUGE ONE.

Man, I know what I'm doing during Christmas break.
I have found a few tutorials for Squiddles (yours is the easiest to follow, haha) and Scalemates, and I will see how much fleece and fluff I can amass for them.
Making plushies is so much fun! >w<

Many thanks for the pattern and sewing tutorial~

SmellenJR In reply to insanefastone [2011-11-23 05:35:24 +0000 UTC]

you're welcome and good luck!

insanefastone In reply to SmellenJR [2011-11-23 05:37:07 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, there's a few floating around Tumblr.

Haha, thanks!

Actually, a question:
Where do you think the magnets should go?
I would think on the bottom, but I don't know how well the seam would hold up under that kind of stress.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SmellenJR In reply to insanefastone [2011-11-23 06:38:15 +0000 UTC]

It depends on how well you sew it and how strong the magnets are. If they are too strong I suggest putting a piece of fabric in there to create a wider barrier for the magnets.

insanefastone In reply to SmellenJR [2011-11-24 01:17:42 +0000 UTC]
