I definitely hate the sound of popping balloons. I mean, I guess it's not as bad when you brace yourself and pop them on purpose, because your mind is prepared for the sound and you know it's coming. But when it happens by accident when you don't expect it, that's when it really startles you!

I personally like balloons until I see them being blown to more than just the right amount (like when they get super big), at that point I worry about them popping since I'm weirdly sensitive to certain loud noises haha, so I'm with you on the popping unnerving me!
