Okay, I'm IN AWE of Mass Effect, this is my final conclusion. I had to take a break in playing for some time, but now I'm back, started all from the beginning! And in the beginning, I'm afraid. (But I am a Spectre, and I have already rescued Liara. I adore how this sounds: Spectre. Ohmigod, I am SO proud!)
The Mako... You know, I am a big GTA fan, I spent my winter holidays in the sunny land of my childhood (San Andreas ), where got an A++ in driving. Seriously, in GTA, I am a master driver: I spent days trying to complete the ambulance mission, which made me as fast as an arrow an as careful as a loving mother, and when I saw the Mako, it was like... 'Wow, a vehicle! Bitch please, it's time for me to show my incredible driving ski-' and with these words I've drove right into a lava lake. My scream was heard on Uranus. It is a death machine.

I don't have a choice other than playing ME, do I? I wanna speak the same language with you again.

It seems the true *hate* for the Mako comes from the console community, on the PC it was easier to control, it just had weird physics. I always found it amusing to drive because of the weird physics.
The typical view for those that don't simply hate the Mako is that Shepard is a horrible driver and the rest of the team is either screaming in fear, or trying not to vomit up their lunch - or both. I always imagined Tali threatening to make me sanitise her suit if she pukes.
The Hammerhead (ME2) was a piece of crap; never stayed in place, weak ass main gun, no machine gun, and couldn't take more than a couple hits. That thing I hated.
The Mako would have been appreciated for the (deeply annoying not to mention uninteresting) final mission in ME3.

That doesn't surprise me, I'm a console player myself, and boy was that thing hard to control, the tiniest movement sent it spinning off in all directions. I don't really hate the Mako any more, I did at first, but only because I was so terrible at it. As soon as I got better, I started to find it mostly fun - a love-hate relationship, as I said. I'd rant at it every time it flipped me over, but otherwise I was OK with it. In my headcanon, my Shep's definitely not a great driver, but when Garrus persuaded her to let him take the wheel, he had just as much trouble.
I've not encountered the Hammerhead yet... this sounds ominous, I will have to prepare myself.

The Hammerhead is in a pair of DLC for ME2 (Firewalker and Overlord), without either of those you won't see the Hammerhead. Both the Mako and Hammerhead were mentioned in ME3 - and you see several Makos in the game - but I don't recall ever driving anything.
You might need Firewalker for Overlord, I'm not sure about that. Firewalker is free, and a rather ho hum experience, Overlord is better, but costs money.

The Mako has a lot of mixed feeling headed it's way, but believe me, by ME3 you'll be wanting that Mako at the end. (and maybe ME2 if you play the firewalker dlc)
I personally like playing in the Mako, but I hate having to use it on a million planets for those exploration missions.
I just like to pretend that Shepard's a terrible driver and constantly terrifying his squad mates. It makes things a little more comical.
Well done on the drawing, great job on the Mako!

The thing I appreciated about the Mako exploration missions in ME was that it gave a sense of scale, that you were actually driving around on a world, instead of just walking around a very small portion of a base or ship, or something. That said, they could have done with less ridiculous mountains for us to cross.
In the other 2 games, only in the Overlord DLC for ME2 did I ever get that same feeling of scale, of being on a planet.

Yes, I did enjoy that too, especially when you reached the top of a slope and encountered one of those beautiful, sweeping views of an alien sky. Along with the elevator conversations (seriously, I loved them and do not understand the hate they get) that's one of the things I miss most from ME1.

Lol it took me at least ten times to reach my destination. (why ten? Because at the ninth attempt, my game crash right before the autosave at the location :/)
