Even among healers Amu'uey was unique, or so it was recognized by her mentor, Mina'ar, who sensed she of all the rest of their role would live to witness the birth of the Seventh Generation, the time of the ancestors' promise. She is sister to the clan leader and a strict adherer of the healer's vow, the Oath. It was she who tended to the dying outlander egg-mother, Iskarta; her daughter, Kire'ey, Amu'uey watched over, guarded and guided with the ferocity of any parent. She is also one of the four war elders, those of the Lusala who remembered the age of peace before the Dark Days.

I've been working on this novel, on and off, since January 2012. Characters you've written and re-written four times over tend to grow on you, Amu'uey being but one of them.
