According to Wookieepedia, Ithorian Herdships were "spacecraft designed by the Ithorians at the Ithorian SkyYards to transport all manner of items across the galaxy, providing the Ithorians a home away from home by simulating the jungles of their native Ithor.

The jungles were on the lower levels, while the cities and living areas were on upper levels. Each herdship measured 1,000 meters in diameter, and was designed to contain a complete and living ecosystem. A pilot and co-pilot maintained the herdship's systems, supported by a crew of up to 3,000 Ithorian workers dedicated to the herdship's upkeep. A herdship could accommodate up to 10,000 individual Ithorians, as well as up to 20,000 metric tons of cargo.

The spacefaring herdships were based on the earlier herd-cities. Because these ships traveled throughout the galaxy, most were armed with twenty laser cannons and four tractor beam projectors distributed around the herdship's hull for defensive purposes. They were nearly identical in appearance to the herd-cities, such as the Tafanda Bay, but were enclosed to allow space travel."

Your creation lives up to that definition. Well done!

This is an aspect of Star Wars we do not get to see often. We're so used to seeing the starships or big battlestations that we forget about the truly fascinating artificial constructions like The Wheel or Centerpoint. In this regard the artist has done a great service by showing us the non-military aspect of large mobile space stations such as the one they depict here.

This is something that we more often see in Star Trek, large stations hanging in orbit of a planet or in space, things that are designed to be aesthetically pleasing rather than ominous and foreboding. The artist has perfectly captured that feel and then given it a Star Wars twist in tying it into a well known Star Wars species who have a history of this sort of construction in order to share their culture.

The combination of technical skill and imaginative creativity in creating this is to be applauded and while as mentioned before this is a motif we commonly see in Star Trek and other science fiction fandoms that by no means detracts from the impressiveness of the work before us.

On seeing this, I was stunned.

This has a Star Trek design philosophy, but that does not cheapen it.

For a start, what struck me was the orientation; everyone (including me) do space stations upright - this is upside down! Ingenious!

There is a lot of design effort that has gone into this, despite its simple look, and that is the beauty here - there has been thought in the construction of this design; and the bio-spheres are a beautiful touch - it's modest but impressive, it's clever without being silly, and I will admit, it is striking - and that is good design work e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="366" title=" (Big Grin)"/>

Great Job - if this is for :iconShoguneagle; you have done him proud e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="366" title=" (Big Grin)"/>

Beautiful!Β  Let's just hope the administrator is a bit more loyal to his friends than that no-good, double-crossing swindler over at Bespin...

I have a special place in my heart for Ithorians due to one of my campaignsΒ using WEG's SW:RPG. Β If you check my gallery, you will see art I commissioned with an Ithorian Engineer. Β

Great pic!

Looks like a star base from Star Trek

I can see that too. I definitely think some Trek RP out there on the internet will probably use it as the face of a Federation starbase.
