story illustration from Brisingr, part of the eragon series
i tried something new with my pencil work, it was getting too busy with everything being completely rendered, so i tried rendering key parts and 'flat-shading' the rest, just putting a flat pencil tone down. im pretty happy with the results, much less busy, and much easier to do XD

i loe it i absolutly love it it's awesome but you made one little mistake when eragon and roran are at the helgrind eragon doesn't wield a sword/dagger
but a long cane with a sharp metal pin at the end
just saying but overall i love it

lol wow ur good at this!!! And Roran looks awesome, he doesn't have much fan arts...
There is one glitch tho ... Eragon does not have a blade when they went to Helgrind, because Murtagh stole / took his sword and he refused all others cos they weren't worth his time, so he used that staff Roran gave him. I'm crazy, paying attention to every single detail ...
But this is awesome!!! (i thinks i saids alreadys)
By the way Roran looks eerily familiar, or maybe I just imagined him that way. Not sure, really. Anyway,

Gotta love Roran's hammer. Great pencil work, line work, shade, and shadowing. I can imagine them together in Helgrind.

Beautiful shading, I just love the way you've done the shading on Eragon's face where the light is shining - it's amazing! Their expressions are great and the lend a really powerful atmosphere to this. The stylised scrolling smole combined with the realistic style of Eragon and (if I remember correctly) Roran is so cool and unique... and gah

I agree with your shading choice as well. Though I kind of want there to be a bit of shine on Saphiras scales like is on Eragon and Roran faces. What do you think?

Ah, the scale shine was really tricky. I couldn't only do a little or else it wouldn't be enough, but if I did it to full extent it was way too much, and the patterning of the scales was really exciting for me so I ended up leaving it rather flat XD; Ah well, maybe next time itll work out better ^_^

Let me clarify myself;considering how horribly awful the movie eragon was, it's (hopefully) unlikely we will see brisingr in our lifetime so I don't know how they are actually supposed to look like. But your drawing is what I would imagine they would look like is what I meant.

so First of all: Eragon here is exactly how I imagine him! (except for his ears!) Well Roran is kinda different though... hehe and as you said ... My favourite Character is Roran.. ("haha, a lot of people seem to like him a lot XD" <- just saw that)
About your amazing skills... I guess my words will not show it right... whatever, the luminance/shading are awesome! you're really talented!

Ah it's always hard getting a character exactly right, especially with how vaguely the eragon characters are described XD but in a way that makes it much more fun for reader and artist alike X3

I've not read Brisingr yet (waiting for the paperback), so I don't know what scene this is. I love the picture though - the 'detail where detail is needed' technique is definitely working

wow this is great!! i recently finished reading Brisingr, it's such a great series!!! this is when they're in the Ra'zac's lair, but i don't think eragon hard a sword at that stage, he had a staff but anyway you did wonderful!!! I love their expressions.
Roran has become one of my fav characters and it's great to see him part of the artwork!

I didn't like the books, but I do like this illustration! Their faces and hair look really great. The only thing bugging me is the dragon. Even with the stylistic thing you did here with the shading, I'm wanting the dragon to have a lot more form. Without rendering, the individual scales stand out too much, making it look flat and kind of amateur.

Hmmm, it's funny. my teacher actually wanted me to keep the dragon completely flat, no rendering at all XD; I guess I'll have to wait and see what he says about it...
