Description

With the Beginners Box and Game of Armor Combat Box starter sets out on sale finally (and still available if you're in the US) it's time to get the last 3 pieces of lineart posted that rounded out that colossal project.

The commando was fairly straight forward, take an old design with good potential that just needed to be a little less flat. The main style question being how to handle that face.

Yep!
It's public official Battletech art, so fanart is 100% clear.

This may be your best BT design i've seen yet (although the many Marauder and Mad Cat variants are far more Fanboy-fun ) truly well balances, not too fragile, not too sturdy, highly dynamic in the pose and feel but keeping a lot of the old design thus making it recognizable. I even like the legs, far less clunky than on the Awesome

Not for this commando, they were a way back source of inspiration for some battletech mechs though. Never watched it myself.

...Always liked this 'Mech since it was SO easy to customize! I had a whole host of variants:

#1: Replace SRM-6 with an SRM-4, & add a Flamer (for anti-infantry, & allowing incendiary operations)

#2: Replace SRM-4 with 3 more Medium Lasers (Overheats at times, but hits hard for its size)

#3: Replace SRM-6 with Jump Jets, & add a Flamer

#4: Replace SRM-4 with an SRM-2 (inferno ammo usually), & replace SRM-6 with a Large Laser (out-gunning even slightly heavier 'Mechs)

#5: Replace SRM-4 with an LRM-5 (great for irritating)

...to give but a handful of examples. Ahhhhh Nostalgia!!

Wow, picture with sound! Nostalgia, it hurts...

Ah, those adorable little 35t shits ^_^ A real pain in first missions.
They have poor choice of weapons but they runs very fast. Β Hoewer this not saving them from homing PPS projectiles (if you manage to capture Mad Cat in e1m3 level).

True perfection ^_^

Haha, the mission where you recover the raven and have a chance to down the timby?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MaasAkari In reply to Shimmering-Sword [2019-02-22 22:47:09 +0000 UTC]

Yes, that mission.Β

As far as I remember, there was only one variant to capture it - blow the fuel tanks near the bridge (with bombardment) where stands TW
Usually its possible to capturing it with several restart of level, and in 2 posible condition: 1-without weapons (but mech is in a almost "good" condition) or 2 - With x1-2 ERPPC but with crippled inner structure of mech (with draconian repair bills)

And the Commando... Commando everywhere in that mission! ^_^

I always interpreted the image in the TR:3025 that the Commando is looking to his left and the dark area is in fact a bubble cockpit.Β  The sculptor of the miniature seems to have thought the head was looking right, towards the viewer and tried to expand the "tipped hat" configuration with an added faceplate.Β  Also the forward aiming antenna doesn't quite mesh with every other mech in the TR where they clearly lean back.

Nice take on one of the best light mechs for the 3025 era.

Shimmering-Sword In reply to Rotwang2026 [2019-02-20 19:12:03 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, after some research was done it was confirmed the head was turned, which is a silly thing to do when presenting a design for the first time.
The tipped beret style isn't a bad idea for a "commando", but for this age I thought it was a little too cheesy to keep

You are welcome.Β
But I question just came to me.Β  How closely does Catalyst and the companies workings on the current line of video games work on getting the 'look' of mechs the same?Β  Or is it bit that the mechs are made by different 'manufactures' so they look slightly different?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Shimmering-Sword In reply to spacewolflord [2019-02-20 20:57:05 +0000 UTC]

Actually we deliberately make them not look the same, as the mechwarrior license and battletech license are held by two different publishers (publishers don't like sharing).

PGI and HBS share video game designs, CGL and IWM share tabletop designs.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

spacewolflord In reply to Shimmering-Sword [2019-02-21 15:50:30 +0000 UTC]

Mechwarrior and Battletech are two different things... Well then I thought it was the same but now I know that was wrong.Β  That must make things a bit trying at times since both are working off the same core designs.Β  How often do you have to change things if a game come out with something that is really close to something that you are working on?
