One of the most interesting surreal-fantastic (even though I hate tags..) I have ever seen. Great imagination with elegant and very eloquent strokes and construction. Bravo!

Beautiful work and great concept!
I love the contrast between the green of the floating island and the red-orange or the background...it draws the eye to the lovely details of trees, hills and rivers you created.
The fact that the isle seems to be floating above a barren wasteland makes it seem like a daydream or memory of a happier place or past.

This is a wonderful piece of fantasy art. I love the way the hills of the floating island seem to behave like waves at their margins.

The painting of the island reminds me of those intricate Chinese landscapes.

A beautiful piece of work.

Quite a big painting Great composition and choice of colors since green and brown comes good together. You have caught an eye catching depth as i want to peer into the valley in the middle just to take a closer look on the river and trees there.

Thanks a lot for your detailed comment - I appreciate it very much IΒ΄d love to paint even bigger, but those "small" formats take almost weeks (or months) to finish - so IΒ΄m a bit frightened by really big formats (I see hundreds of unfinished works hanging on my walls)

Adflictus In reply to shanysh [2009-06-27 12:01:49 +0000 UTC]

Just take a shot and give it a try I need to try more colors since most of my art is in shades of grey. It is going to take years of practice before im as great as you

shanysh In reply to Adflictus [2009-06-27 17:57:49 +0000 UTC]

Hm .. I think the formats get bigger by and by, so I will "grow" with them Before I took the first brush and colors I also did only draw with graphite. Then I tried colors and .. huh! .. it was fun! Believe me, it doesnΒ΄t take years ... what you see in my gallery is almost my complete painting work

Thank you so much Aaron ... IΒ΄m glad you like it because I struggled a bit with the depth and detail before I thought it was good enough to finish it.

The first notion that came to mind was "renewal", or "rebirth"

Love all the swirling motions... as though all that greenery is rising above all else.

shanysh In reply to snowunmasked [2009-03-20 18:00:27 +0000 UTC]

Then your first notion was like mine as I realized how it would turn out
This green landscape nearly drove me mad ... the painting was ready, but somehow this green monster looked blurred and boring instead like a blessing from above. A few days later I worked it over for 5 or 6 hours ... and that was REALLY, REALLY a good decision! *grin*
