Description The two, the mand and his loyal llama, had wandered too far in the icy mountain range and lost the track of the mountain path that lead back to their village. They had no other choice but take the longer and more dangerous way to the village for they couldn't possibly turn back and take the risk of getting lost again. As they were crossing a smaller top of the sunlit mountains the top suddenly started to move. It rose far above the twosome risin its icy wings, revealing its scaly shape and galring at the two with its cold yet wise eyes. As if the man's and his llama's luck hand been bad enough for the day, they had encoutered the Flying Iceberg of the Icy Spine's Range - Anwarunga.
"Oh FUCK!"

Obviously, the title stands for the reaction, not really for the subject. How would you react in such situation? Possibly at least think "Oh fuck". In the sketch I had drawn a small speech bubble next to the man and it said "No voi paska!" which means "Oh shit!" in Finnish. It was funny, but I couldn't leave it there and so I erased it when I started colouring that part. But the theme says it anyway! Quite a pathetic way of filling that theme, my ideas never make sense. ;D

EDIT I edited the speechbubble in the picture! [link]

But finally, FINALLY I could finish this. This drawing has been under work from August and now I had enough time to finish the colouring. School had eaten so much time and so on that I really haven't had time to draw anything for myself. But this weekend I've had some time. I would've had more if I hadn't slept 'til 12am and after that went to buy a prom dress for me. x__x It's quite a pretty dress anyway, I like it. And don't worry, even though I desired to finish this one, I also worked a bit on some promised works, too. I should have more time to draw during this period because I don't have so many subjects. And for that the period just starts there won't be so much projects and homework for starters.
And back to the picture. I simply love it. Anwarunga might be hard to separate from the picture because the colours are all the same through the whole picture. It wasn't my intention, I only wanted to try to use only few colours and no black at all. I even bought lovely blue ink specially for this picture. And it's so fine. But otherwise I really like this. I worked on this mostly in school because I had no time to do it at home - but in school I had! However, it's finished now and I'm really happy about the outcome! Oh, and the scanner obviously didn't, screw you, rapist! DDD<
I hope you like it! And I also hope someone has enough courage/whatever to write a crit or something, I'd really like to receive one.

Haha, I'm glad that you did it anyway! The title is a bit questionable, but I had to use it because otherwise I couldn't have figured any other picture the theme would fit.

Thank you very much for writing this critique, and for writing such a lovely one!
I agree with the legs, they're a bit short, but I wanted them to be quite short. I don't really like dragons with overly long legs. ^^'
For the sky I used two colours because I didn't have the exact hue I wanted, but if it still appears to be a bit flat... Now that you mention it, it is quite flat compared to the detail of the rwest of the picture.

But thank you very much again, I really appreciate this

Ole hyvva I thought it would be something like that! And yeah, on any other picture the sky would be fine - it's just the detail elsewhere is so vivid, any flat patches really stand out

She's doing this "100 theme" thing, has been as long as I've known her, only picking a theme to go with the picture rather than drawing one to fit. So I suppose if she's sticking to it, she'd have to do this sometime - only a pity it was on such a pretty picture...

You don't often come accross brush-and-ink illustrations like this everyday. Normally, most artists who create art with this particular media tend to draw out everything with black lines first, then colour it in (almost like something in a colouring book but here, you've used one overall colour, throughout.

The finely-detailed textures on the dragon look almost as if they've been "sculpted".

The lighter shades in the centre of the artwork feel if they have a "neon" glow to them. Personally speaking, I do feel that a little more could have been done to emphasize the surface of the mountain in the background. Thanks for sharing.

First, thank you so very much for writing the first critique I've ever received! I'm really flattered of these words and the overall rating.

When inking I try to avoid making it look like it was from some colouring book. I try to bring some variety into the lines to make it look more "alive" if I could say so. Inking with a brush and coloured ink is much more fun, too. The lines look much better when done in that method instead of some black inking pens.

And I think you're right with what you said about the mountain on the background, it could be emphasized a bit more. It was the one of the last parts I coloured and I still tend to grow bored with a drawing in the end. Not as much as before, my patience has improved from what it was some time ago, but usually I'm very eager to get the drawing finished that the unfinished parts may suffer a bit from that. But I'll try to pay more attention on such things from now on!

Thank you very much for the critique, once again! I really appreciate it

Kummiski enough of that. Hyvin on kyllä mun mielest tehty koko piirros. Väritetty mahtavasti ja muutenki tosi hyvä!

ShadeofShinon In reply to XKhaz-OujiX [2010-03-03 12:53:37 +0000 UTC]

Aaaa rakastuin.

Olin muuten tiistaina Tammerkoskessa. :> Oon tetissä, ja mut pistettiin haastattelemaan paria lukiolaista. Yritin bongailla sua sieltä, mutta ei onnannut, nöööyyyy. Tosin ihmekös tuo, siellä oli kamalan sokkeloista. :''D Hah.

Noin ajattelisin minäkin. Olisi todella hienoa tavata oikea lohikäärme, mutta tilanteen puolesta reaktio olisi kyllä tuo. 'D

No mikä siinä on kun kaikki tulee sinne enkä mä ikinä näe ketään! :'D Harmin paikka. Mutta ei siellä kyllä niin sokkeloista ole, paljon rappusia on kyllä ja invavessat molempien rakennusten yläkerroksissa mutta ei hissiä ollenkaan. XDD

Yeah, first it may be a bit hard to find because of the colours are the same all the time. But good thing you found it!

What I did? Well, nothing that differs from the usual, I think. I just inked it with coloured ink and used the regular coloured pencils but no black at all this time. That's all. Oh, and I also used a lot of time!
But thanks for the comment!
