This is the first time I've opened max for atleast a month or more so this was a pretty quick abstracty scene, no textures, just blah

Theres something about this which is just pleasing to the eye I hate texture mapping too.. most of the stuff I make in max ends up plain render lol .. if it ever gets to the render stage!!!

I quite like things with no texture Anyway, it's like anything, you spend enough time doing it you get better... you just have to sit there no lifing for a few years

You have awesome photos and stock, so you've spent a good time doing that

Heh yer... I think I lack patience with texturing. Plus I've never posted any of my max things... most other peeps who work with max would probably laff at my efforts I have recently got back into it though, I'm working on a grand citadel. In for a penny in for a pound I say lol (glutton for punishment!!) I've been watching a lot of the tutorial vids on Lynda.com to refresh myself

Yeah tutorials help, even if they don't focus on exactly what you want at the time, you can often still find something really useful in it. I guess in the end it's just the time spent doing it.

Let me know if you get stuck with anything

woah, I really like your style! You gotta love texture-free scenes... I hate UVW mapping. It's a good technology, but it's so tedious... That's why I love abstract... well, one of the reasons.

yeah i love the untextured scenes aswell, not sure exactly what it is (apart from texturing being a pain in the ass and lots of work) lol..

I think i like to see the way light bounces around, textures get in the way + it's hard to get them just right

Yeah, I love to play with light, global illumination stuff and the like... Somtimes I'll just mess around with a simple little scene and some unique light effects to see how it comes out. I love it, and yes, I agree that the textures kinda get in the way. That's why I mainly use solid colors and no textures..

not bad for a quicky. I like the curving rods and the swarm of the whatchamacallit particles.
