Description This might be macabre.
Still, the overall approach is abstract. I think it will fit.
I am getting a feeling of steppingstone here, as though this is a small step in a direction I want to head. I might also rework this and make some variations.

Does that seem like a odd thing to do?
If a work is done, and this one for me is now, then why not let it rest?
But I think there are other stories these elements can be made to tell.
Like, how much information can a necromancer extract from a corpse before it is a useless husk?

Wow. I am so goth.
The darkness of my bleeding soul must blot out the "sunshine of your love".
Ha. I slay me.

Wow.

This scares the hell out of me.
The colours are wonderful, earthy and almost beautiful
Except because of the way they are used, they take on a new feeling
Like rust or decay

I love the way the figures fade in and out of the image
Sometimes they seem to disappear entirely, except for their faces,
A chesire cat sort of effect.

It is interesting, the wallpaper design and the floral one in the background,
Actually I'm unsure of their significance but they seem to take on some sort of important meaning
I'm reading it as something cultural but I could be wrong.

Anyway, an incredible piece. It seems to get at something deep in me.

Ah, forgot to mention too, a $5 print is available. Which is like, what €4 or something?
Anyway the link to the store is here: [link]

Site might look weird if not using IE. Still under redesign for other browsers.

Thank you for sharing your impressions.
The fern element is probably the most symbolic, a sign of fecundity, as is the use of the female elements.
I was also making slight reference to the sculpture work of the Yoruba, as well as the Catholic Communion wafer, the Host.
This is about questioning the elements of culture which we are born into specifically, referring to religion.
A new awakening, bordering on elements of blasphemy to get to the real root of the matter, to find the good message underneath the years of porpaganda and political manuvering.

Thanks for checking it out.

Given a choice between the monsters in our minds and those in our midst, I think I will stick with the former.

I do appreciate you visiting, don't be a stranger.

This is a really interesting piece. It feels 'tribal' to me. Or something.
Nice use of warm colors. Nice how you can see through the faces and all...
Uh. Yeah. This kicks ass. And so does a lot of your other work. I still have to look through it all.

Again, I don't see labels; I don't see goth. I just see..images.

It's like..it's like...You play in my visual range. I can hear what you are playing. Without really knowing the vocabulary. Clicks and grunts? Not quite. But I like your speed. It suits me.

As for variations on an ice cream cone. Go for it. Turn the image upside down and count to three; and grab some one element of this drawing and play it on your knee.

It won't affect this piece, this piece is through. But another one will show another shade of you.

Nothing new. Hope that makes sense. You never SNEEZE the same way twice, now do you? So don't worry about doing themes. Just don't make 'copies,' as all as THAT becomes a bore. neh?

Right on. I think that is the paranoia, that I am making delutions of the same. But the journey of 1000 miles begins with a single step.

To the car. Cause goddamn, 1000 miles is a long way to walk.

Agonhotep [2004-06-02 22:42:54 +0000 UTC]

I think this can be described as "Alien Tribal." It does have that tribal look to it, but also has a very sci-fi flare about the atmosphere. I love the colors you used, it's almost overwhleming the way it jumps out at you like that.

f5sys [2004-06-01 20:06:41 +0000 UTC]

overall enjoyable, but certainly not abstract. if it demands a title, it could probably classify aesthetically as surreal, but I'm sure that since it's most likely not derived directly from a dream (read: surrealist manifesto) could it conceptually be surreal. fuck dali man, fucking fraud. a nice piece overall...a good way for me to ease into your gallery.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Senecal In reply to f5sys [2004-06-02 15:10:56 +0000 UTC]

Hey thanks. I think I tend to regard the approach more than the final product when assigning a classification.

So in the sense that it is more representationally figurative I think you are right about the surrealism aspect. Classifcation of our own work is the trick. The shoemakers children are never shod.

f5sys In reply to Senecal [2004-06-02 23:02:48 +0000 UTC]

yes man YES. i think that most movements are total pretentious shit in concept because humans are, by nature, aesthetical whores who want a result that looks cool. Take Arp, for instance. Totally a recognized dadaist, but his wood assemblages obviously aren't based on chance...they're total rectification. thank you duchamp. duchamp sort of says that concept CAN be done man.

You probably know this already.... still I want to tell you: The little Goth Kid in me is totally smitten with your work... but I really have to watch out for the zombies... running away doesn't seem to be the answer anymore? Have you seen the remake of the "dawn"? Alex Garland has done pretty good work in only "28 Days"...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Senecal In reply to sankatze [2004-05-30 16:20:54 +0000 UTC]

Oh yes, and I have to say, I do prefer the new Dawn of the Dead to the old Romero version. I still love George's work but the original Dawn of the Dead is just nothing like the new work.

"28 Days Later" is a good movie, and I am glad it was made but there is something a little boring about the people being infected with "rage" instead of being dead. A gerat idea and a nice twist on an old idea but I still prefer Dawn of the Dead.

This is amazing. The bright green-yellowish eyes and teeth against the dark skin really pop out and definitely look a little freaky. The natural looking orange and reds really look good with the brown tones. Great work!

I don't know what is more macabre...this piece or your gothness...jejeje...both are pretty amazing...so anyways

Doing variations is sometimes a good thing, letting one piece have all the angles possible...and letting the viewer see them... yeah, you could get some very nice things from this

The images are great, and the colors bring out some of that macabre look you talked about...

Grandioso...como siempre..

very powerful harmony in colors, i liked it...

somehow, i sense a different approach in this one when i compare it with your other works. May be, the difference is a more systematic graphic language(a more identified overall composition, which goes beyond scattered experiments through the canvas). So, this also evokes viewer's feelings for searching details.

Also, I think you can make more experiments with those half-transparent textures, and etc.

Good work
