Description This is my entry for 's contest. You guys know who this is? AWWRRRROOOOOOOO!!!!!

Man, its been more than a year since i did a pencil portrait... and obviously, i need practice but im pretty happy with the piece considering the lack of pencil drills and how the paper didnt allow various grading of shades.

I wish i captured the likeness of this Badass more though. I usually use a pantograph or some graphing tool but with this piece, i did it by eye.

Minor edits in photoshop like cleaning the background and changing the gray to a slightly reddish color. Nothing else

how can i not? he's quite a character and he is one of the legends in the sport. Yeah... i wish Rampage didnt stop raining em fists when he tagged Rashad. Im sure if he went all out that time the ref would have stopped it or Rashad couldve been KOd.

Ugh, I know. One of these days Rashad's going to do the Stanky Leg again, and I hope it's again with Machida. God I love Machida <3
Did you know that not only has Lyoto not lost a match, he's never lost a round? Every round of every fight he's been in, he's scored more than the other guy.

semaj007 In reply to kyphoscoliosis [2010-06-08 00:40:41 +0000 UTC]

That was until he faced off with Rua though. Even if Machida won the first fight, i think the points were really close and Rua didnt even get a mark on himself. 2nd fight was all Rua. That said, i think Machida is still a good fighter. Unorthodox but pretty effective going in and out. Kinda like Anderson Silva with lesser punching power and none of the bullshit antics.

I'm sad that Machida and Silva said they'd never fight each other. They're best friends and told Dana specifically that they'd never square off. Too bad -- that's my dream fight, and I'm sorry Silva, but I'm in Machida's ring.
Good point on the Rua fight -- I forgot about that. I think he still scored more on the judges' cards, though, but I can always be wrong.

Well, he did score more points on the judges cards which scored him the fight (first one) but the looking at their faces and legs, Machida sustained a whole lot more damage. And the 2nd fight, Rua KOd him on the first round (or was it 2nd?)...

Anyhoo, i wasnt much of a Rua fan even in his PrideFC days which he was younger and in his prime but after his performance against Machida, im a fan of his now. But i like Machida too and i hope he still improves and add more diversity to his style.

Ok, now I definitely feel like a UFC n00b. I haven't been keeping up too tight lately with the fights, mostly because too many guys I just really dislike are coming into the ring (Roy Nelson? Seriously? Fat lards don't belong in an Octagon)
I had no idea until now that Rua beat my Brazilian baby like that. I'm astonished. Sad for Machida's godlike win streak, but endlessly proud of Rua for the epic win.
I need to get back up on the times. I've been slacking for real as a fan of the bloodsport.

Nah.. you aint a UFC noob, im juz a UFC addict. I dont like Roy Nelson myself but damn, his record is undefeated in the UFC as of now. Anyhoo, you should watch the next UFC especially the upcoming Lidell fight... its gonna be cool to see legends clash. Too bad Tito pulled out of the fight.

I used to practically be a female Joe Rogan as far as UFC knowledge went for the time of UFC 103-ish and before.
I like that fact that Big Country is losing weight and humbling slightly. Half his wins are still unfair, though. Fat bastard smothering guys for 3 rounds... Oh well.
Yeah, I'll make it a point to catch Liddell vs. Franklin. Jeez, I wanted SO BAD to see Chucky pound that egotistical ass's face in. Figures that he'd be "kicked out" 5 days before the season ended ;D I think he was just scared 8D

Female Joe Rogan? hope you dont look anything like him! JK... Nelson really knows how to use his weight huh? LOL... i would like to see him face off someone with the same experience as he has coz it seems that his UFC fights arent exactly against high caliber fighters.

Tito was brash and cocky ever since his first fight in the UFC but at least i think he was better and faster back then. Now, he's still as cocky but hasnt improved much at all. Liddell hasnt improved as well but thing is, he doesnt need to... if he hits you, you're down.

OHGODNO. Nonononono. If I looked like Joe Rogan, I think I would shoot myself.... because I'm a woman and that shouldn't happen.
Yeah, they keep throwing that fat guy against people he's obviously going to smother. I think it's just for the entertainment of it, but isn't that the whole sport?
Exactly my point about Tito. All talk, no game, filled more full of excuses than a driver on drugs and alcohol. Liddell just kicks ass, takes names, and when he loses, trains harder -- doesn't cry in a corner and make empty promises.

Yeah... LOL. Nelson got talent but i dont think its enough to back his shit up. He talks like all that but lets see how he does against the upper echelon of UFC fighters when he gets his due. As for Chuck... exactly. That's why i respect the guy. He doesnt act like he is in WWE and talk smack. He's simple, down to earth and talk with his fists. Win or lose, im a fan.

Agreed, Rashad is talented no doubt, i like him as a fighter but somewhere along the line it seems like he got a big head. Rampage is entertaining, i'm a fan of his win or lose

semaj007 In reply to Photopops [2010-06-04 12:47:57 +0000 UTC]

Rampage indeed is quite a character! sadly he lost again... i dont know what happened with him on the 3rd round of the fight. He caught Rashad and jumped him but he stopped after 2-3 strikes and allowed Rashad to recover... if he juz pounded him out till he got exhausted, the ref would have stopped it.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Photopops In reply to semaj007 [2010-06-05 01:51:31 +0000 UTC]

I was disappoiinted he lost, but it was by decision so that lessens the pain of it for me. That 3rd round he did have Rashad so close, notice that Rashad grabbed Rampage by the back of the shorts? Pulled himself in close to Rampage so Rampage couldn't get in full strikes and finish the fight. There should be a rematch sometime down the line, Lt. Heavyweight division is stacked right now and Rampage is going to have to get in line and stomp some fools! He may fight Machida i read but i think a rematch of him and Griffin would be a better way to go for Rampage.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

semaj007 In reply to Photopops [2010-06-06 14:59:15 +0000 UTC]

For sure! Lt Heavyweight has a lot of old school legends and great new talents mixed in it! I think Rampage should go back to his roots and do them superslams he used to do during his highschool years and PRIDE fights. Even if he's older now, i think he can still do it with better training. Griffin is a cool dude but he doesnt have much power on his hands though... but still, it would be a great rematch.

GSP is one of my faves as well! he's juz f'ing awesome and an all around fighter!

Rampage? i think he was beaten by FG IMO coz he stuck to his game plan. If they went out swinging, FG wouldve land face first round 1 though. Did you hear the news about Rampage?

He drove his monster truck on the streets and in the sidewalk scaring away pedestrians! He was imprisoned but bailed by Dana.

"and obviously, i need practice"
Let me say here and now: no you don't need to practice! This is floggin' amazing! And this was done "by eye"? If you manage to create something like this by eye, you really don't need much more practice.
Come to think of it. Wouldn't been bothered to even post a comment had it been made by memory, just let the jealosy simmer to the unbearable (until it spurred me to become better, or just as good).
But, as you've been told a gazillion times; excellent work, mate.

Well, think of it as hitting three birds with one stone.

1. You practice your skills
2. You get to know more people .. (i got to know you right? )
3. What do you know? You might win

I myself dont expect to win as well. I juz did it coz ive been invited in the club a few months back and i havent done any traditional stuff. I think i owe the club some stuff and i do need the practice too.

It's great to have you back!
Yeah the contest is over,.... I think you came 2nd so well done!!! I voted for you, maybe I already said that - my memory is rubbish!

I dont think I have time to do a female in time for the contest, but if I did it would probably be Estelle, as the series I'm working on is on british hip hop artists. I will probably do Ms Dynamite too, but I think I will do Estelle before her, but I dont think either will be ready in time. Do you know when it ends? Also - judging from the response I got on the last one, my stuff doesnt go down that well in this club! haha.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

semaj007 In reply to Yamenja [2008-07-02 16:20:56 +0000 UTC]

Uhhhh... thanks for voting for me but i didnt win though. Or maybe you voted for the other entry? LOL. But its all good.

Dont get discouraged! You're entry was actually great! and being the only colored piece, it shouldve caught more people's attention. Sometimes... well, most of the time actually, people vote not on the technique and effort that the artist puts on the piece but rather the person they draw. Looking at the top 3 winners, all are well known Superstars. Like me, i did an UFC superstar but i doubt 1/10 of the members of the club even know UFC. LOL

If we wanna win, i think we gotta go for what the crowd wants. But im not after the win though. Id rather draw something i enjoy than aim to please others. Estelle is quite popular so, you might do well with her.

Im into hiphop/rap/RnB but im not familiar with Ms Dynamite.

Ok, as it was split into 2 polls, you were definately 2nd in the poll we were in, but I guess the winner being in our section too, that mustve taken too many for you to be placed.....but yeah, it aint about the winning, and I absolutely agree about the subject being more of a vote-catcher than talent, there was some lovely work that didnt get any votes at all.

Yep... and im surprised to hear that you didnt do too well in it! But since there's no actual prize, better enjoy what you do instead right? Im planning to do a local celebrity for the female and i dont see how that will appeal to the voters. hehehe

thanks for the ms dynamite links! i havent seen em fully yet tho as my net connection is quite slllllooooowww now. But i kinda like her tunes! might look her album up! Thanks!

I look forward to seeing your local female celebrity!

Glad you like the sound of Ms D. - she is very real...you know, her messages are always worthwhile - and she has great tunes too.
You like Dizzee Rascal? I'm listening to him a lot recently, although I really love some tracks while others dont do it for me so much. What about Roots Manuva? You know him? I think he's really special. I love a lot of US stuff, but I like to promote the good brit acts.
On a US tip - If you get a chance to see Jay-Z's performance at Glastonbury do check it. The sound on the you tube versions is really bad, but if you can see it any other way, I think it was a fantastic set.

Hope your connection recovers completely soon!

We dont get much of British RnB/Rap artists here in the Philippines which is why i have never heard of Ms D... and all the other artists you juz mentioned.

I think the only ones i know of are not rap artists but more of RnB/Pop like Leona Lewis and Craig David. I dont know but most rappers nowadays arent that good though regardless if theyre from the US or UK... especially the younger ones. Ive been accustomed to Tupac, Naughty by Nature, Warren G, LLCoolJ and some of the oldschool rappers and i guess one could really compare to those guys.

I dont like Gangsta rap as well. Id prefer those crazy out of this world lyrics of Eminem and Afroman than songs about killing each other and stuff. Tupac was a gangsta but his songs delivered positive messages though and its good to see rappers like Ms D follow suit.
