AND DONE
under the wire but managed to get both girls through the whole season
-----
It was a very different atmosphere in the finals compared to the rest of the futurity events Vonnie and Kirra had competed in. The pressure had intensified as it came to the end of the series. The competition had increased each round as the horses had made leaps forward in their training and exposure to the show atmosphere.
The final would prove to be the ultimate test for them all.
The show runners had pulled out all the stops, and especially for the dressage class, Vonnie found herself aware that this was the first time a lot of the young horses had come face to face with such an intense setting. The late time as well as the light installations were much more expected at the higher levels, and it would be a big ask for a lot of the horses.
She found herself once again thanking how calm and steady Kirra was in general. The mare was alert and interested in their surroundings but did not bat an eyelid at the spectators or the light show after the familiarisation the night before. Kirra was with her every step through the warmup and was showing every scrap of maturity she had as they steadily worked through the test.
A pleased smile tugged at Vonnie’s mouth as they trotted down that final centre line and halted for the salute. No matter what the judges scores were, she was proud of what they had achieved and feeling excited for the mare’s future.
