The solution on Nightmare? Build crazy defense. See to it that they CAN'T die, no matter how hard they try.

Though fights last a bit longer...

Yeah...I dunno. I tried playing on Hard Mode since that's what I started all the other Dragon Age's at, but like, after 2's kind of perfect tactics system, to go back to having to micromanage really dumb AI was just...hrrrrghhhh... Like, I think Baldur's Gate had better AI (since at least they'd do what they were told) and that was 20 years ago.Β

Oh, believe me, I absolutely agree with you on how irritating it is!

My methods for keeping them alive work pretty well, but if they had decent tactics options, I wouldn't need those methods in the first place.

That's why they made the game so easy though, right?

Loving the story and character interactions, but the font is WAY too small, the camera angles can be a pain and using the select button for the strategic view is idiotic, as it's hard to get to when you're actively in a fight and moving around. Β If there's a way to change the button configuration, please tell me. Β Also, I can't get my tapestry to upload to my PS3, which REALLY pisses me off. Β Why couldn't they do that right in the damned game? Β Mostly, it's the technical side of things that I feel they failed on.

savagesparrow In reply to Treyos [2014-12-07 14:11:28 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it wouldn't be so annoying if like, 1. they didn't make such a big deal about how awesome the tactical view is and then....deliver a messed up tac cam (though it's supposed to be better on console, is this not the case?) and 2. That they didn't scrap the things that were actually =good= in DA2--namely having such an awesome AI tactics menu.Β

I've only had them run after rams after fighting the local monsters.

Although the whole close quarters mage attack does happen frequently, I think it's more that they don't think to move away from their target as opposed to them moving towards the target. It would happen all the time in DAO and DA2. "Dear Varric, learn to parry. Love, your innards."

savagesparrow In reply to Artificer-Urza [2014-12-04 13:50:41 +0000 UTC]

I feel like in DA 2 it was a little better though because you had the more comprehensive tactics system. So you could be like, "Tank, when mage is surrounded by 3 ppl, run over there and taunt all of them" or "Mage, when you are surrounded by 2+ people, use your defensive crap." With the simplified tactics, you can't do this so...................well, you weren't overly attached to those innards, were you Varric? XD

Heh, had them run off to fight rams (and the occasional halla) but they generally drag the main stuff with them. But then, I use Bull and Blackwall as my tanks. Cass is ... well ... words can't describe how Cass acts in a fight.

Am I the only having trouble with taking potions?? During battle or traveling, sometimes it literally WILL NOT let me take potions... So I have to go to camp and lose potential progress... Ugh. help?

savagesparrow In reply to MysticMe123 [2014-12-02 03:59:13 +0000 UTC]

Hmm. I've never had any trouble taking potions myself, but there're plenty of times companions would rather die than chug a red pot (even though I said they can chug said red pots to their hearts content in tactics). Does it mess up with all the potions? Like, can you take Regen potions or use a healing mist or grenades or something?Β

Check out the Bioware forums because like, best case they have a solution, worst case a Dev will take a look and write up a fix for ya Β

Yeah, I might do that. It's like when I pull up the menu to the potions and try to select one, the curser (xbox one) doesn't even show up. Otherwise I'm not really sure on the trivialities, but it is SUPER annoying. Thanks for trying!

Or they don't take potions because they have limit to "save some for later"... so stupid to have only 8 potions :<

If they won't take a potion, it's usually because they're in the middle of another action. I play on PS3 though and I've heard things are a LOT more finicky on the PC.
