....I am totally the person that saved Alistair, came back, heard Varric deliver that line, saw his face upon realization and then.....totally reloaded and replayed to save Hawke instead. Which is annoying because strategically, you would think you'd wanna save the senior-not-insane Grey Warden so he can help them get their shit together. But I guess it works out since my canon warden is dead anyways, so....now they can be together ;_;ΒRelated content

ohhh Varric is my top favorite Dragon Age character, but I still saved Alistair... not just because of the story that Alistair spun me about returning to his love (my Warden <3 ) but because if anyone can survive the Fade, it would be Hawke, right?
And if you took Morrigain's deal in DAO... The Inquisitor meets Flemeth in the Fade... which goes to show you that HEY SOMEONE CAN MAYBE SAVE HAWKE AGAIN BECAUSE SHE SAVED HAWKE ONCE BEFORE

Yeah, you really can't win one way or another. But...I felt a little bit better about killing Alistair when he seemed kind of indifferent that the love of his life sacrificed herself to save him. I mean, not for nothin, but it was kiiind of a big deal. Now they can be together with Andraste or whatever their heaven is xD

Such a heartbreaking scene. I can never let Hawke stay behind now after seeing Varric. Luckily all my world states end up with Stroud as my Warden.

I'm so happy Alistair was king for my play through. I had to pick between Stroud and Hawke, which was a no brainer for me. It wasn't that I disliked the guy, but I felt no attachment for him aside from the fact he can save Hawke's sibling from the Blight. I it were Alistair though I think it would have been a whole lot harder.

I picked my least favorite Hawke in the random event that I would have to pick between her or Alastair, I couldn't loose all of my favorite characters! Those puppy tears from Varric were so sad, and the whole "well, guess I'll let Fenris know..." I'm glad I'm not the only one who had this moral dilemma.Β

I always let Stroud die, sorry but I ain't killing myself, which is basically what you'd do. With Alistair though....ughhh. Stupid difficult decision concerning the wardens.
Don't know if I could take Varric's face though. Maybe I should have made it so Hawke and Varric are rivals, might make that an easier decision..... Probably not.Β

I will admit, even with Stroud...I killed Hawke. It was tough, but it was clearly the right thing to do because there's nothing else Hawke can contribute to the story, whereas we are going to need the Wardens.

I chose Alistair straight up the first time through. I just couldn't bring myself to kill my favourite Hawke, never mind Varric. Fortunately, my current playthrough has Alistair on the throne...

At that point, I would have deleted the entire save file, gone onto the Dragon Age Keep, updated my choices to Alistair being king, THEN replayed the game.

Though I'm kind of surprised they didn't make Nathaniel the other choice instead of Stroud--it just seems like in order to keep the choice meaningful across the board that it should be another character you're attached to or at least have had a relationship with rather than some rando warden

They probably wanted to give us the possibility to get a "who knows you fuck off" guy to feed Nightmare instead of one of our BFFs... had the third possibility be Nate (or worse, THE WARDEN) they would have find their place swarmed with enraged fans of the game with pitchforks and torches...
