Description I was doing the first page of my RSOM entry and I got kinda bored of staring at it. This is the first panel I inked--it took me forever because I do it around 1200 dpi of the print size. Which is about 4-times as big a this @__@ and that's not even the whole page... so it's very very very big. I haven't added the background yet, I usually don't do that till last, and I did some lazy coloring O.o

Ah, sorry If I don't get to your notes, messages, comments very quickly. I don't sign on for like a day and I have around 270 messages in my message center T____T. And I'm on dial-up.... I'm going to have to go to the library tomorrow and use their Wi-Fi... I will get to everything, eventually.

Man, I'm really going to try to set up the backgrounds in my manga. I'm going to make all the detail blow you away

Whoa, cool. Those kinda rough fading effects look REALLY cool. And I like how the whole pic is kinda colored in a yellow-to-orange gradient.

Thanks alot. I wanted to try something different from the usual smooth shading, and I'm elated you enjoy the gradient. ^___^

Ooh, it's lovely. :3 I like how the shading on the shirt is golden from the light. It's pretty

I was thinking about entering RSoM ( I've been following that contest ever since it began, surprisingly, and I've only gotten and entry in once xD ), but I don't know if I really feel like it this time. I've gotten so discouraged. x_x

I have 1,002 messages in my message center. Seriously, I watch too many people. 748 of those messages are deviations :dies:

*poke* You should enter RSOM ^^ You could win^^

I watch a lot of people too. I depending on the day, I might get around 100 devs O.O

I love this...the composition and expression are just so complementary that it makes me warm inside very cool
Though even though i could do no better i must say....the transitions between shades isnt very smooth but that may be your intent...which makes it even cooler...ok ill shuttup now

sashas In reply to KweenB-08 [2006-06-06 01:14:26 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much. The rough transitions are intended, to contrast with the smooth gradient and lineart, but I'll definitely mind the intention look if I ever try this kind of thing again. Thanks^^

the ink is GOREGOUS though. Nice line thickness variation. and I like the dissolving color in the shading.

I'm not brave enough to work big 0o I work at 300dpi and if you printed my images, they'd be like 3inx4in

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

sashas In reply to autumncoloredmelodie [2006-06-03 18:52:40 +0000 UTC]

Thank you.

I work big, because according to the RSOM specifications, the finished version has to be like 5 x 7(somewhere like that) at 600 dpi. My inking is pretty clean but it looks even cleaner if I work big and shrink down. I used to work at maybe 150 dpi for some of my works but now I work at around 600 dpi for all of cg work. That way you all don't see all of the flaws I've never worked at 1200 dpi before this.... it really slows down my computer.

autumncoloredmelodie In reply to sashas [2006-06-03 20:58:17 +0000 UTC]

ah, well good luck with the competition! I know about the slowing down the computer deal. I usually use 40-60 layers, and it makes the computer so slow....I would use more but I don't think the file would open!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

sashas In reply to autumncoloredmelodie [2006-06-04 17:44:25 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. 40-60 layers O.O that's alot...... and you say you would use more?! Egad...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

autumncoloredmelodie In reply to sashas [2006-06-04 18:47:14 +0000 UTC]

yeah. I work in PS and PS only for coloring, and I don't like smudging, so I use opacity for blending, but I don't like risking messing up what I already did. so I do a layer for each base color, then I can use a layer mask to get the same shape for other layers without actually having to select it. then i use 2-5 layers for each color for shading an highlighting. once I get it where I want, I'll usually collapse sections, but not always. I just need to learn to paint. haha

Woo, very good work . I like the smaller version more to be honest, since the full size has a strong texture to it. But still very good. I love how the gradient stays throughout the image/within the boys shadows. The whole picture has a great contrast to it, and the line-art is very clean and professionally done .

It's nice, I'm still amazed that you get around to all your comments.
I wish I had done one of my favorite CG pieces at a higher DPI... That's why a high DPI is good ^_^ but there is a piont reached when the DPI can be too high... lol but it's not as bad... just takes longer to make... So? this is your first page for the RSOM? I thought your Umbrella manga was going to be...
Well, I'll try to minimize my comments for you, cause I bet you get a lot!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

sashas In reply to melllic [2006-06-01 19:47:04 +0000 UTC]

No, they're all answered now ^___^ I like comments the most of all my messages... well, I like my devs, but comments really brighten up my day^^ Don't stop commenting I really like to hear from you ^^

Yeah, the higher the dpi the better it looks, I used to only work at 150 dpi for my artwork now I work at about 600 as a standard for all my CG things ^^

Well, cough. The story for RSOM is the same as the story for Umbrella. It's just that I learned alot from doing the first few pages and I want to improve on what I've done was well as make the storytelling better. Also, the screentoning was done in grayscale, where as Tokyopop needs to have the screentoning and lineart done in black and white only...so my RSOM entry is just an improved Umbrella.
