Yeah, sure you can make it off of various flying birds like pigeons, parrots or falcons but in the end you start to run out of new ideas and start reusing old ones.

And when you do reuse new ideas they don't look as cool, but sometimes they do

True but I have seen some good ideas from the fan artist. One artist I know made a parrot based fire type starter that eventually became a fire/dragon type with a fire/flying type in between stages. I have a link below though I do recommend checking out this guy's other work as it is very creative.
