When I was little, I lived in the country. Until the age of eight, I lived with my parents and four older sisters, so time alone with Mom was scarce.I can still remember that when I had those chances to sit alone with Mom at night, I would draw butterflies for her.

I also remember using purple and black on a lot of them... it's odd the things one remembers, huh?
Most of the ones I used in this drawing are actual types of butterflies. The one on her head and the one behind her head are my own design.
Now, she isn't technically me, but I did use my own face for reference in a couple spots...she has my nose, upper lip, chin, and cheeks. The hair's not mine, though...
I don't really know why I put a kimono on her, but it's just what came to mind when I decided that I wasn't drawing her naked.Photo's kinda crappy for now; it's storming here and it's all dark outside now. I will post a better one when I have better light tomorrow (I refuse to use a flash, and scanner's too small).

Just beautiful.... I love the detail to her hair and the way you colored only the butterflies and flowers. The branch was a lovely touch as well!

Not bad, only issues are that the value is far to heavy on the left side, which makes it unbalanced. The blinding white is the focal center, which I think should have been the face, but the emphasis on the butterflies makes for beautiful vibrant color. Very nice piece, although she kind of has the chin of a boxer. A little too long.

I love how everything else is black and white, but the butterflies are colored. They really contrast with eachother.

Oh, so nice! I love the way you colored the butterflies to set them apart, -- almost like they're from another world. And the two that are your own design are just as real and spectacular-looking as the the others. What a lovely, lovely memory. I'm glad you modeled her after you -- even just a bit. It gives the picture a real "personal" touch. And I like the choice of a kimono, though she would have been a lovely nude with the butterflies. If you ever decide to do another variation, I think I'd like to see that -- you could just show her shoulders to be classy and modest. ^_^ Of course, then you'd have to shorten the hair length, and there's something about her long hair that makes her fit into the butterflies' world. It's a wonderful piece. Thanks for sharing the story behind it with us!
