who is stronger? Gwyn or his firstborn?

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

Exam-Kun In reply to matgore99 [2017-01-04 01:47:57 +0000 UTC]

Gwyn, easily. He was supremely powerful in his prime, and was most likely the one who removed his traitor son's powers.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

matgore99 In reply to Exam-Kun [2017-01-06 02:00:24 +0000 UTC]

but just how powerful was Gwyn? the opening said that Gwyn sunlight bolts (that is what they are referred to in the opening) peeled the dragons' scale while Nito killed them with disease upon their exposed flesh. if you look behind Gwyn you can even see alot of Silver Knights helping Gwyn and he way the one with the light soul but the firstborn didn't. also i think that the Soul of cinder is about as powerful as Gwyn in his prime with all the others LoCs.

Exam-Kun In reply to matgore99 [2017-01-06 02:30:20 +0000 UTC]

Very powerful, the most powerful in the Dark Souls universe. I didn't see any Silver Knights there, but as powerful as Gwyn is he still needed help against the dragons, he isn't all powerful after all. The firstborn did lose his powers, this is mentioned in Dark Souls 1 lore. I doubt he is even a third of Gwyn's power. Gwyn's power(and the other gods' powers) started weakening after the first flame started dying, and it is very reasonable to conclude the same goes for the Soul Of Cinder. It's pretty normal in Dark Souls to meet bosses well after their prime. Not to mention that Gwyn repeatedly gave parts of his power to other godly beings(The Four kings and Seath for example) and even then he was very powerful. "Lord Gwyn bequeathed most of his power to the Gods, and burned as cinder for the First Flame, but even so, Lord Gwyn's soul is a powerful thing indeed." Description of Gwyn's soul from Dark Souls 1. If we met Gwyn in his prime we would have been one shotted over and over in an endless cycle.

matgore99 In reply to Exam-Kun [2017-01-09 01:02:31 +0000 UTC]

you can see the silver knight around 1:59. the firstborn didn't lose his power but his name and title. by the time you fight him the First flame is just powerful enough to consume you but in 1 where you fight gwyn, the flame create a massive explosion so that would mean that the fristborn is extremely strong if it is stronger then the soul of cinder. even if the flame fades the lords of cinder are still in there (and just a quick theory. my theory is that the first flame does not want to be kindled so it created the soul of cinder to protected it and stop people from linking it so the next age could come.) to give it power and you did just shove 5 more lords in it to get there. Seath and the four king are not that strong and are fair easy to kill (my problem with Seath is that it is really hard to cut off his tail.) so i don't think he gave that much of his soul to them. obviously gwyn is alot more powerful in his prime but Artorias is stronger then gwyn when you fight him and he is nothing more then a battered corpse when you fight him in Oolacile.

Exam-Kun In reply to matgore99 [2017-01-09 15:52:23 +0000 UTC]

I saw them when i slowed down the cutscene, even as powerful as Gwyn was he still couldn't defeat the dragons alone.
"Lord Gwyn's firstborn was a god of war,
but his foolishness led to a loss of the
annals, and rescinding of his deific status." Ring of the Sun's Firstborn Dark Souls 1. This clearly implies that he had his powers taken from him. It just ignites again in the first game and in the third game, there is no real difference. The "explosion" in DS1 was just to show how powerful the first flame burns when ignited. And why would the first flame not wish to be ignited, provided it even is sentient, it's clear that the first flame will never completely die. Even in complete darkness it can ignite once more. Seath and the Four Kings are more powerful than the lords of Dark Souls 3, and they only had a part of Gwyn's power. Now you are simply talking gameplay mechanics. It wasn't just to them he gave his powers to, it said gods, plural, and Seath and the four kings are no gods. Not to mention that it said most, which means he gave away at LEAST 51% of his power. They had fragments(A small part broken off or separated from something) of his power and even that was enough to satiate the lordvessel. Though it's obvious that Seath's part is bigger

matgore99 In reply to Exam-Kun [2017-01-12 00:05:33 +0000 UTC]

status mean title not power and if his godly power are taken away then with then he could be stronger then Manus in his prime (we are talking a lot about how half the bosses in dark souls are so much weaker then what they used to be like. i mean, Artorias is mostly just a corpse, Nito is limping[unless he aways does that], the gaping dragon is well... that. and Manus's soul had be split about 20 thousand time.]. the reason why i think the first flame does not what to be ignited is because it wants the next age to come but because we are feeding it it can't die and so it uses the souls from the lords of cinder to create a powerful guardian to stop it from being linked. how can the First flame be linked when it was put out? also i don't count souls to compare the power of bosses in dark souls because bosses like pinwheel gives you more souls then some other bosses like the Tarurs Demon and the Gaping Dragon gives you 20,000 souls when Gwyndolin, Ornstein and Smoagh all gives you 40,000 souls but the gaping dragon is much, much weaker then all of them and is before blighttown (unless you have the master key).  also Seath and the four kings have souls of their owns and they still give you 60,000 souls when they both have fairly large souls of their own. also the fragments of gwyn's soul can't satiate the lord vessel unless you also get the other lords souls. also you are probably the smartest person i had argued with about dark souls lore and theories ( one of them said that the only dragon in dark souls is Seath and another one said that the souls of cinder only has the power of the Chosen undead and the Bearer of the curse).

"to take away" The most fitting definition of rescinding under this context. www.merriam-webster.com/dictio… . The traitor was most likely stronger than he is in Dark Souls 3. The majority of those we face are but a shadow of what they used to be.  Nito's power would fade along with Gwyn's since their power is connected to the first flame, and that Nito offered much of his power to death, and that Pinwheel stole power from him while he was sleeping like a parasite. "The power of his soul is
so great that it satiates the Lordvessel,
despite the fact that much of its energy has
already been offered to death." His soul description. Why do you even think it is sentient? The untended graves seems to be a clear indication of what will happen if the first flame truly dies, no more sun. I don't count the souls that is given when consumed to their power either. I forgot about that, but the fact that it also requires Nito and the Witch of Izalith's powerful souls to grant passage just shows how powerful Seath's and the 4 kings souls must be, and how much power the lordvessel required. I will grant you that it's pretty likely that Nito and the Witch's souls likely did a lot more, and the Witch's soul did the most of those two considering her power is largely intact albeit corrupted.

It's nice to discuss Dark Souls lore without anyone turning to insults, Dark Souls community is pretty toxic.
Really? He thought the only dragon in Dark Souls was Seath? Did he miss the opening cinematic, or Kalameet who is a survivor of the war?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

matgore99 In reply to Exam-Kun [2017-01-13 00:20:27 +0000 UTC]

the reason why I think  the first flame is sentient is because it created the Souls of cinder to defend it. The first flame also was what made life, death, happiness, sadness and other things, so they couldn't it also be alive? The witch's souls did probably do most of the work when put into the lord vessel and the other's were just for support. also he did think that Seath was the only dragon in the game and not Kalameet the black DRAGON or the Gaping DRAGON or the stone DRAGON... i just realized that Seath is the only dragon that does not have the word DRAGON in his name and if you bring DKS 2 into this then you also have Sinh the slumbering DRAGON and the ancient DRAGON with the guardian DRAGON (that is not a DRAGON but a Wyvn).

I don't really know but I think the Firstborn is more level-headed
and sane than his father, so in a way he is emotionally stronger.

matgore99 In reply to SaneKyle [2016-07-21 01:23:28 +0000 UTC]

i have to go with the firstborn. remember that the souls of cinder is all lords of cinders combined. that also includes Gwyn and the chosen undead with the rest of the LoC, yet the first born is the hardest boss in the game.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SaneKyle In reply to matgore99 [2016-07-23 05:22:27 +0000 UTC]

The case is that the Soul of Cinder is composed of possibly depressed
and near-hollow souls whereas the Firstborn is not very bothered
by a lot of emotional cargo. One could even say that the King carries an
air of pride while the Soul of Cinder is an embodiment of despair, so yeah
it's quite logical to think that the Firstborn is stronger because nothing
holds him back.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

matgore99 In reply to SaneKyle [2016-07-23 19:34:06 +0000 UTC]

don't the gods get their power from the first flame? in Ds3 the flame has gotten so weak that when you link it, it does not explode like in ds1. instead it just slowly burns you to ashes. so by that logic that would mean that the firstborn would be much, much weaker then when he first allied with the dragons.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SaneKyle In reply to matgore99 [2016-07-24 02:43:09 +0000 UTC]

It's true which is why the Soul of Cinder is a manifestation
of a desperate final attempt at defending the one thing that
sustains the lords. If the Soul of Cinder was created much
earlier when Gwyn and the others were in power, it would
most likely be the most powerful entity in the Souls universe.

The Nameless King I think is just very, very skilled and possesses
a defiant personality, typical and befitting a war god. He must have
never had a hard time taking people down. In terms of skill he's definitely
up there with Alonne and even his own father, but in terms of power he's alright I guess.
He can tame drakes though, so that's something.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SaneKyle In reply to Unkownbrony52 [2016-05-30 12:21:14 +0000 UTC]

Four legs and two wings is definitely a dragon. Nowadays, dragons
are depicted with just two legs and two wings, which makes me think
they are wyverns.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Unkownbrony52 In reply to SaneKyle [2016-05-30 14:37:15 +0000 UTC]

Well, that is because dragons like those are depicted like how pterosaurs are anatomically which makes it a more believable creature to look at. But to those of classic fantasy it is still considered a wyvern to them while to others it is a dragon. But are wyverns just a species of dragon?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SaneKyle In reply to Unkownbrony52 [2016-05-31 04:47:23 +0000 UTC]

I know the argument that vertebrates can only have up to four limbs in real life, but
it's fantasy. A lot would say that wyverns are related somehow to dragons, and I don't
necessarily disagree, but they are certainly weak chickens.

True. But they both have a strong connection to magic that makes them important.

SaneKyle In reply to Unkownbrony52 [2016-06-01 02:23:57 +0000 UTC]

I don't know about wyverns having a strong connection to magic
(I'm a wyvern basher, hahahah) I do see them as ancient predators
and that they're more reptilian than anything else, more so than dragons.
Dragons I do believe are deeply rooted in not just the earth, but in the
universe itself.
