Yooo this is pretty good watercolor! I know how you feel about being afraid to go darker, but it might help if you at least pushed the sky and the shadows on Sesshomaru (I think that's his name?) a bit. I dunno if black would be good, though, because black can risk muddying up a painting sometimes. Maybe try a range of darker cooler colors? (or maybe it's just me feeling like light source/shadows have to be a bit dramatic it could be either or).
Also it might not be mandatory I dunno, but reflections of his body in the water and a bit of the plants could help with it being water-like too? You definitely have the dark and light parts of the water going on, so that's good!
;u; Watercolors can be a tough but fun medium to work it, I know. I miss watercoloring myself, I really need to get back into it...

Yeah that could be it. I know with other materials outside of what I'm more comfortable with I get hesitant and take a while because of the fear of messing up. Even worse with traditional mediums because there's no undo button! Oh yeah, definitely get watercolor paper for watercolors, so you can keep adding layers without worrying about that. I personally go for Arches watercolor papers, since that's the type I got use to using back in art school since multiple teachers recommended it, aha! Hot Press or Cold Press, it depends on if you want a smoother or toothier surface I think? I use hot press more myself, since I like to go smoother with my paper. Just easier for me to outline and such that way.
Usually for me with reflections i just take a bit of the color I used for the body or whatever and make marks similar to how I make the water, and in some places but the water's color on top of the edges of it so it can blend in some. I dunno if that's a good method or not, but that's how I usually done it, especially with lights on the water. Then again my style is more cartoon, so a simplified way I could get away with I guess. But research for reference is a good idea regardless!
Same. I did sketch out a remake of one of my older watercolors, but I should outline it first. It's just... taking me a while because there's no undo button with traditional methods.

It's watercolor paper, just more for sketching, not finished pieces I'm aiming for those block types, where they're glued on all sides. Saves me a bit of trouble, haha. Thanks for the tips though! I'm like, 99% newb when it comes to watercolors
Oh, I know that aspect of reflections, it's the lighting situation in this particular image where I'm not 100% confident how reflections would work exactly. I hadn't thought to look up references and there were too many other things going on in the painting for me to think to do anything about it, haha. Initial guesses would be extremely subtle, probably not spanning all that far from the figure since the light would already be pretty scattered. I appreciate you mentioning it though! Something to keep in mind for the future
Right? It's so scary x'D I really need to do some more sketches to play around with it. I have so many extra colors on my palate I'm not using anyway. (I was one of those newbs who used too much paint at first. Least with watercolor, it's salvageable LOL #ByeAllMyAcrylicPaints )
