The Japanese used blown glass fish net floats (bindama) ---Some of the nets were 50 miles long---
The glass floats we first used in Norway in the middle 1800's---

I know them, we had them here too. Sometimes you can still find some in fish restaurants used as decoration. They haven't been used by our fishing fleet since the very early 19hundreds, so they are sort of antique
