Description This and only this justifies it. The people whining about how they're lost and don't understand Japanese are really starting to annoy me.

Someone took the shot. They weren't in Japan.

Why would they call the trainer Red?

ZetaRESP In reply to BeeWinter55 [2016-03-19 14:40:18 +0000 UTC]

Because that's the name of his Manga counterpart (all the counterparts of the game playable characters and sidekicks/secondaries are about the editions) and the name stuck. For example, Green(or Blue in the Japanese Version)

The reason for that is that there was never a real name stated for the playable and rivals of RBY and GSC, because both player and rival had always custom names, with Red and Blue having their names canonized in GSC and HGSS. This was changed in Gen 3, where the opposite gender playable character would appear as an NPC and the rival would have his name stated since the beginning (this last part was changed back in the DPPt games, where the rival's name is always stated by the player and also in the HGSS games, which copies the original one's plot and the naming of both playable and rival; the opposite gender player would remain as an NPC and its name would be the default).

Yeah, there are some funny things about the game protagonists and that is that only Red, Blue, Silver, Crystal and Leaf have their names relating to the games they come from (Red and Blue from Pokemon Red, Green, Blue and Yellow; Silver and Crystal from Gold, Silver and Crystal; Leaf from Fire Red and Leaf Green). Gold's real name is Ethan, which is the name he has in Heart Gold and Soul Silver when you pick the female playable, Lyra, and it's officially the name given to him in GSC, as he's the same character unlike Lyra, who is a different character from Crystal. All the other playable and rivals have their own names as well. To begin with, all the female companion trainers to Ash, they have the same name as their female playable counterparts (RSE's female is May, DPPt's female is Dawn, XY's female is Serena), while the other characters are: Brendan (male playable) and Wally (rival) in RSE, Lucas and Barry (same) in DPPt, Hilbert and Hilda (both playables) in BW, Nate and Rosa (same) in BW2 and Calem (male playable) in XY.

Putting Red in the Pokemon games as the true best Pokemon trainer to have Ash out of the picture. Don't you think that's very insulting? Just saying.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

ZetaRESP In reply to BeeWinter55 [2016-03-20 16:47:54 +0000 UTC]

Nope, you got it wrong. Ash is supposed to be Red's Anime counterpart, just as happens with May, Dan and all the others.

The reason they got Ash like that was because they had to change their plans to actually end the trip in Kanto. The original plan was to have the protagonst change with each generation, with the counterpart of each game's protagonist taking over. Hell, there are words that Mewtwo Strikes Back was meant to be Ash's last canon appearance in the story, but the sucess of Pokemon in both Japan and America actually caused those plans to change (the series was in a hiatus of 6 weeks after the Porygon episode and there was a heavy consideration in cancelling the series after that, but the games hit America that year and they actually changed their minds at the last minute).

Hell, they added the Orange Islands Arc to wait until the Second Generation games came out and to give Ash a tournament to win. They realized that, if Ash wins a League, he'll be pretty advanced in his Master quest and they'll have to end the series. Hell, it was confirmed that, because the Yo-Kai watch anime and games are displacing Pokemon's in Japan, as well as Satoshi Tajiri actually feeling touched about the gesture the creator of One Piece, a person her respects a lot, had with a dying fan of the series (that kid got told the finale of the actual story, which we're still far from reaching, as according to the creator, the manga is only half way into it), they'll have Ash reach the final of the Kalos League and maybe win it as an end to his story. I mean it, it's said that there's a very strong wish from Satoshi that Ash will make it to the final in Kalos and probably win, and that would be the end of his story.

ZetaRESP In reply to BeeWinter55 [2016-03-21 03:07:03 +0000 UTC]

Satoshi wants that finale for his story and he's speeding things up. Like I said, the writers are discussing seriously to make Kalos the last stop for Ash's eternal 10th year of life.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

BeeWinter55 In reply to ZetaRESP [2016-03-21 03:46:37 +0000 UTC]

Sounds like the writers are taking it seriously (or not).ย  And does every hero have to speed things up? (I've seen Sonic the Hedgehog speeding things up.)

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

ZetaRESP In reply to BeeWinter55 [2016-03-21 04:27:35 +0000 UTC]

Not the hero, the creator. Satoshi Tajiri wants to have Ash in the Kalos finals. No words in if he would win it, though. The reason for this is double:

A) Pokemon is losing against Yo-Kai Watch. Maybe here, it's not the big deal, but in Japan it's huge and it's displacing both the games and the anime as the next Mon craze. They may think on cutting the anime.

B) Eichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, met a cancer stricken fan and told him how he plans to end the story knowing the kid would never see it (given chapter 580 is, according to him, just half way in...) and that gesture struck on Tajiri's heartstrings, as he knows there are fans that probably never reached this point in the anime and, well... you know the rest.

ZetaRESP In reply to BeeWinter55 [2016-03-21 12:22:27 +0000 UTC]

There are insaner things, like the fact chapter 584 is just the middle point of One Piece. I mean, COME ON! Dragon Ball's manga, which stops at the end of Z, was only 300-something pages long, and that's THE WHOLE STORY. And you can't make even 100 chapters from GT's storyline, even.

ZetaRESP In reply to BeeWinter55 [2016-03-21 18:30:17 +0000 UTC]

Okay, listen up:

First chapter of One Piece itself, the one where Luffy eats the Gomu Gomu Devil Fruit, came in July 19, 1997,
Chapter 597, the one where Luffy leave his hat temporarily and decides the crew goes on a 2 year vacation and according the creator is the end of the first half of the story, came in August 30, 2010, approximately 13 years, 1 month and 1 weak later (a little over 600 weaks, which means there had to be a hiatus in production...).
If we add the same rhythm and length to the second half, the last chapter may be 1194 and it may be around first half of October of year 2023.

ZetaRESP In reply to BeeWinter55 [2016-03-23 00:16:54 +0000 UTC]

They do because, if they don't, the studios close their doors. Samurai Champloo's studio, Manglove, got out of business, for example.

BeeWinter55 In reply to ZetaRESP [2016-03-23 01:19:39 +0000 UTC]

True on that

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

ZetaRESP In reply to BeeWinter55 [2016-03-23 01:26:31 +0000 UTC]

So, they have to rely in quantity. Also, Japanese have very fixated tastes, it's not hard for something to find a niche. They use animation just as a medium than a genre, so they have more freedom with animated features. There's one, for example, called Ajin, which is pretty much a horror anime.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

BeeWinter55 In reply to ZetaRESP [2016-03-23 02:05:37 +0000 UTC]

Ajin too horrified and creepy.ย  But the storyplot is kind of interesting.
