Description Here's a much better view of the wings I made for my wedding. They're attached to my shirt with four pins, which makes them pretty easy to switch from outfit to outfit, as long as there's relatively sturdy cloth at the part of your back you want to attach them to.

They're constructed of craft foam, with a wire frame running up the arm of the wing, so they can bend forward over your shoulders or stand straight up. The patterns are done in acrylic paint, and they shimmer slightly in real life.

How did you make them?

This was all feather shapes cut out of white craft foam. I hot-glued them around a wire "arm", and then applied a cardboard base with pins. In retrospect, totally switch out the pins for rare-earth magnets. So much easier to put on, and less likely that someone will clap you on the back and give you puncture wounds.

Those are gorgeous! I'm looking at making some foam wings for my upcoming wedding (for my fiance's daughters). Any advice?

Give yourself LOTS of time. And buy extra foam, I had to remake one of the arm pieces. If you have the time and energy, build a dummy wing first. And definitely draw a full-size outline on a piece of paper. You can use it to lay things out when you're assembling it, so your wings are the same shape.

Oh I have plenty of time. The wedding is over a year out and for the most part I'm stay at home. I actually started to lay out a design last night on poster board that I just had laying around. I still have to go buy foam. But I'll definitely make sure to do a dummy wing. I suck at symmetrical things any way, so I'll have a layout made. Thanks for the tips.

Think about how you're going to attach the silly things too. A backless dress is going to be different than something that covers the whole upper body. Mine was attached with pins to the back of my Chinese-style dress. I've seen it done with a harness that slips down the back of a dress, or ties around the arms.

Oh and I forgot to ask, what kind of wire did you use for the frame?
