Description
A medium sized shorebird, the Pectoral Sandpiper breeds in the northernmost arctic tundra, and winters throughout South America. They are seen in Massachusetts during migration only, and although they can be found along the coast on beaches, are more commonly seen on flooded farm fields or grassy areas. This particular individual came within 4 feet of me as I lay in the mud in front of him. In awesome evening light, this was my best opportunity ever at this species.East Meadows
