Description Strictly seen in the United States during migration, the Solitary Sandpiper breeds throughout Canada. Although they are usually seen alone (hence their name), I have seem them in flocks of two to five birds, and a few times flocks of fifteen or more. On the breeding grounds Solitary Sandpipers nest in the abandoned nests of songbirds, in trees!
