your good but you skipped explaining about 2 or 3 steps. I personally have no clue how you went from step 1 to step 2. basically I'm asking how did you get the black to blend so well with the grey in step 2. besides that I have no complaints. good job

The way that most people blend digitally is by leaving the brush at a low opacity (5-20% range) and then selecting a color in between the two you are trying to blend.
