Except that penguins live in the Antarctic, a continent. A submarine would have a hard time surfacing through the land mass!

I know a group of Bs flew to Antarctica from Cape Town back in around 1964.

Brilliant picture mate.
Any chance of doing an RAF Hercules being loaded?
I was an RAF 'Mover' and worked with the Herc from 1998 to 2003.

Didn't say impossible, but others pointed out that the plane would more likely have skis in this situation, and wouldn't be landing on ice under four inches thick, which is what is needed for a sub to break the ice. It doesn't matter, it's a cool picture. Plus I was stationed in the far north and it reminds me of it.

Despite the pointed-out likelyhood of this situation being less than probable, it's a good image. Way to go!

This one reminds me of one of the stories Keith Ferris used to tell about some of his USAF-sponsored trips to Antarctica! Beautiful work!

Cant be too thick that is a submarine in the back round and they cant breach the ice if it is over 4'. To much stress on the sail.

It is , the submarines most of the times use a type of vertical torpido to crack the surface of the snow.

My brother served aboard the USS Queenfish when he was in the United States Navy. He made multiple breaches in the artic ice. He told me that there are no areas in the antartic (there is a penguin in this artwork) that you are able to breach and they relied on just the strength of the sail to acomplish the task. They would only do it in an area that is smooth on the underside of the ice.

Also remember ice of around 18"-24" can support an 18 wheeler fully loaded.

how does something that heavy sit on ice?
