ROFLMAO yeah. Funny about that when it's just a cool domestic flower. I guess it's not manly to do gardening.

Thank you! I love acrylics, you can finish a painting so fast with them because they dry so quick.

Thank you! Yes, I had to put the classic one in somewhere. I liked the red ones too and couldn't decide which reference to use, so I put the plants one behind the other.

Okay, given that, I think that florals or botanicals should be considered their own category. Write the Help Desk with a category suggestion and say so. And here I thought you could do a still life with human corpse, bloodstains and smoking gun. Goes to show...
Seriously, I am trying to convince DeviantART to create a traditional art category for "Florals" or "Botanicals" in both drawing/illustration and painting/airbrushing, because half of mine go in Landscapes for being Intimate Landscapes outdoors, and the rest go in Still Life even when there is no vase in sight and it's not just part of an arrangement. Bowls of fruit count as still life, usually get labeled still life. Flowers in a vase can be a still life or part of a still life. But those beautiful illustrations for herbals and botanical books are their own category of art, where it's essentially anatomical drawings of a plant. You can do this with animal drawings and list them as "Animals" but you can't do it with anatomical drawings of plants, and that frustrates me -- as well as people who would like to be able to look up floral art and find irises to fit their kitchen decor of irises and pansies without wading through a lot of ceramic jars of dead grass or crystal-and-glass still lifes on the way.

blood stains and guns are okay!! just like not flowers and fruits and stuff... but that makes no sense... i think DEAD things fit. not living stuff since it still grows & develops. maybe that's it. guh. i don't know why fruit is excluded from this... maybe it's because once they are picked only their color change- not their size & general appearance.
(HAHAHA i act like i know what i'm talking about...)
(and yes, a specif botanic section would be wonderful!!)

Well, yeah. I think fruit counts as still life the same way a Twinkie would. Still lifes of fruit are traditional and what people first think of with the idea of a "still life." They evolved out of some much more elaborate paintings from the Dutch Masters where the table would be filled with every kind of food, not always cooked -- your fruits and dead pheasant and other things like that. I can see flowers as an element in a still life, especially flowers in a vase. But not all floral drawings come in that category!
And I have seen some authors in art books that include a cat sitting among the vases. I would so have wanted to title that one "Immanent Disaster" since there's these big round fragile vases surrounding a cat. The cat's just sitting up all pretty but it's like, wait till a moment later -- crash! Cats love things that roll... lol

Yep. I bought a batch of canvas boards that size with the idea of doing some, and I've already got watercolor blocks that size.

Thank you! I am so glad I did someone's favorites this time. Pansies have some personal memories for me, they are something I did want to put in the garden last year but wasn't up to doing it -- however, next year is another matter. Maybe I'll be able to do some of my own reference photos next year!

Thank you! I know the feeling -- if I do a quiz or a meme and they ask "What is your favourite colour?" I have to answer "All of them." In one painting I can choose colours for that subject in that light in that painting, but it will be different for every one of them. I used to hate beige and brown -- but my Ari cat is all beige and brown and he is so beautiful!

Thats right :] I wasn't a big fan of yellow myself, until I met my girlfriend, who wore yellow clothes all the time. Hehe

Hehehe, there's another one. I used to hate yellow, but then I started seeing it in context with black eyed susans and some other flowers and liked it.
