Description Trying to render with Iray the first time, using presets. Render is as good as untouched, only a little light and color correction in Photoshop CC. Rendered with Iray in Daz Studio 4.8.

Unnamed native American character, I'm aware that neither his facial structure nor his clothing are "correct", assume that as my artistic interpretation

This is just beautiful. I'm in awe of this gargantuan MAN, this perfection; set against the setting sepia sun and at cliff's end; a romantic bit of bliss.

LOL I could bathe in the praise or say the truth and that is that it's just a preset from Dimension Theory's DAZ Studio Iray HDR Outdoor Environments with one of my characters and a bit of postwork. I still have no clue why it does what it does and how it works in the slightest >.<
Anyways, thank you

Coincidently, I've had it brought home to me today how easily it is to offend others when you had no intention whatsoever of doing so; when there is nothing further from your mind.  But honestly, this looks to me to be exactly as you have stated it, and a fine job of it into the bargain. I am American with a bit of Native American heritage in my family tree.  Many Native American Braves of the past from a variety of tribes might have looked similar to this model.  Very nice and thanks for being brave enough to share it.

Edit:  To add a little more.... If you look at some of the most celebrated American painters of the "wild west" and of the "American Frontier" -- generally from the 1800's, and it has been called many other things, you will see that the Natives were often depicted as long-legged, deeply tanned, lanky with wiry muscles, and long, fly-away dark hair, and this is because that is what many of them did look like.  Height is questionable as many might not have been as tall as some artists would depict, but that is not to say that there were no tall Native Americans then, and of course, their offspring now through the generations are as tall as most anyone else who has been bred and born in America from a wide variety of ethnic backgrounds.  But I digress....   Anyhoo, well done.

Thank you, for your time and feedback It's highly appreciated.

Sadly, a lot of people mistake art and artistic freedom with reality. I could go deeper into that matter on topics that are far more "dangerous" than maybe false depicted ethnicity. I had a conversation with a friend a while ago who was upset with what a character in a book said and did not want to believe me that those words were spoken by a character and not by the writer itself -- I find ppl much too sensitive on those things. It's ART, for God's sake, not a lecture

Native Americans are as varied in their looks as any other race of people.  I think you have it correct for what you are demonstrating.  Nicely done.

Thank you. I'm always a bit worried I could offend someone

I can understand that worry.  Some people get offended easy and others don't.  Some would laugh and some would get mad.  Really you sort of have to have a thick skin and do art that pleases you and find the audience that appreciates your art and the ones that don't, ignore them.  I love your art by the way!

Oh my, you make me blush. Makes me very happy you like what I do Very, very happy. Since I'm often struggling it's words like these that encourage me to continue, get better and tell my stories. So...it's all your fault!

He did say that Hehe it's so beautiful! It'd be so great if
you could visit Did you know famous German author Karl May made
his living writing Westerns that were supposedly autobiographical, but
the fartherest west he's ever been was New York state?

RisingPhoenix-22 In reply to leothefox [2015-06-29 16:33:17 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I'm actually surprised you know Karl May, he's mostly unknown outside Germany. He actually really claimed it was all autobiographical and did readings even at universities in Germany under that premise. I grew up with his books and the movies which are VERY famous here I have no idea if they have been translated to English (I'd think so) and I can highly recommend them -- even though they are based on "lies" they are very well researched afaik (not only Westerns but also Middle Eastern stories). I rewatch the movies often when they are on TV here

Oh yes, I own a book of his, but I haven't read it yet.
He has been translated, but he was actually largely unknown
here until more recently. I enjoy a fun "lie" sometimes anyhow.
I know there were some films starring Lex Barker, right?
Oooo I'm glad you know him, now I can really look forward
to cracking into that book You know me, I have a big
old soft spot for authors from his era

Well, even tho I adore his talent, stories and the worlds he created, he was a pathological liar and criminal who claimed a lot of things that were just not true and he even carried a doctor title he never earned. It's hilarious how he is so famous and is still seen as a role model which can only be blamed on the impact he had to German views on things ppl only knew about from his works (like "Indians" who he depicted as noble and honorable contrary to the "savage" view many other ppl of his era had). Lex Barker starred in several of his movies, he's one of the heroes of my childhood. His here even more famous counterpart from the Winnetou movies, Pierre Brice, died just this month Which book do you own?
(you're only allowed to call yourself a Karl May fan if you're able to say 'hadschi halef omar ben hadschi abul abbas ibn hadschi dawud al gossarah' without having to look it up)

That only intrigues me further, really. My buddy Tae always
said truly crerative people always have some great flaw like that. It's
odd how obscure May is here. The only reason I'd heard of him was that
Shatterhand was used as a named in an Ian Fleming book and my grandfather
explained to me that it was a reference to a series of Westerns Oh
yes, I'd read that he was far more compassionate towards the Native Americans
than most American western writers. I think not having the "pioneer spirit"
forced on him might have been a positive factor there.
I haven't seen those films, but I've got another German picture starring
Barker, The Castle of the Walking Dead, directed by the fellow who did
the later Dr. Maubuse films
I've got "The Black Persian", a hardcover edition from the 70s. It
was cheap on Amazon so I went for it (I can never find May in the used book-
-stores here.
We shall see if I can attain true Karl May fan status
